Iconic Australian footwear brand, Volley, has remodeled a much-loved Aussie classic as part of a limited-edition collaboration with the Australian Open and will be launching a court-side pop-up store. Famously worn by Mark Edmondson, the last Australian to win the Australian Open in 1976. Founded in 1939 by Australian tennis champ, Adrian Quist with the release of the ‘Volley OC’, Volley’s roots have always lay with the popular racquet sport. The shoe soon become a tennis staple, with up to 90 percent of players at Wimbledon throughout the 60’s sporting a pair and the shoe of choice for Aussie tennis greats Rod Laver, Margaret Court and Evonne Goolagong Cawley.
The collaboration was a natural fit and a no-brainer for the iconic sneaker brand. “We are so excited to be a part of what is undoubtedly the players’, the fans’ favourite tournament of the tennis calendar. Having such a rich history in tennis and now as a lifestyle brand, this enables us to have over one million visitors both local and afar, touch and feel a piece of sporting history. We are so proud to be part of this amazing and fun event,” said John
Szwede, General Manager at Volley Australia.
The Volley x Australian Open collaboration includes two styles; the Heritage Low (RRP $69.00) a silhouette of the classic style designed in the 70s, and the ‘Deuce High’ (RRP $99.00) a brand new style to join the Volley family. Embossed with the Volley and Australian Open logos and incorporating the tournament’s signature blue tones, the tennis players won’t be the only ones serving.
