As Melbourne Spring Fashion week approaches its end, Couturing sat down with Hair Maestro, Kevin Murphy, and Mecca Make-up Director, Kenneth Higgins to find out what’s hot this Spring/Summer.
KEVIN MURPHY
Couturing (C): What are the key hair trends Kevin sees for Spring/Summer 13 – Colours, styles?
KEVIN MUPHY (KM): I’m excited about short hair this season. Short hair now looks modern and confident and it fits the clothes of the season better. We’ve had long, flowing hair for many seasons and it’s quite refreshing to see short hair on the catwalks. I am loving high shine and defined looks where the hair is almost wet or dewy looking.
Gone are the flyaways and frizzy hair, and in are structure and form with a wet look. Hair colour this season is more even and we are seeing lots of soft titian reds and golds. All over, clean colours work well when you put product in your hair; no more streaks!
C: What have been your favourite looks during your time overseas during the Northern summer?
KM: Models like Coco Rocha and Karlie Kloss, and actress Carrie Mulligan are leading the way with the new way to wear your hair short and I love their styles.
MECCA MAXIMA
We asked Mecca Artistic Director, Kenneth Higgins what is hot in Make-up for this Spring/Summer.
For lips, Kenneth’s colour pick this season is Coral. He picks NARS lipstick Barbarella (peach) and NARS Velvet Matte Pencil colours Bolero (pink cantaloupe). He says Coral suits most skin types, including Asian skin tones, and advises bright colours give a big pop of colour to the face.
If a pop of colour is not your thing, Kenneth suggests the Femme Nude Lip Stylo collection by Hourglass, an innovative new lip crayon housed in a sleek lipstick case.
To keep lips in the perfect condition Kenneth suggests Mecca’s Lip De-Luxe lip balm.
Kenneth says clear, dewy and matte skin will provide the perfect backdrop to the bursts of lip colour this new season!
As for nails, Kenneth says they will be a feature this summer. He recommends Kit Cosmetics’ new Limited Edition nail strips – Laneway Festival, each strip named after famous Melbourne laneways. They work to provide simple and effective colour for the nails.
