Looking for something interesting to see over the weekend and combine it with a tipple or two? Then make sure you check out The Zoo every Sunday afternoon at Trunk until end of March. Why you say? Because The Zoo showcases talented street artists who do their thing live in the beer garden, while you sip on your drink and hang with friends. Where else in Melbourne can you watch art come alive?
To be honest, I haven’t had much exposure to street art, apart from walking occasionally down Hosier Lane, and I had never seen anyone paint live. After spending a relaxing afternoon with friends in Trunk’s beer garden, street art meant something very different to me.
On this particular Sunday afternoon, whilst I sipped on a Trunk cocktail named ‘Sailor’s Punch’, I had the pleasure of watching a true artist at work. Although it wasn’t conventional art as we know it with easel’s and paint brushes, it was really inspiring watching someone create such a stunning canvas right in front of your eyes. The artist was Mike Maka, known in the industry as Makatron, who patiently and creatively painted a stunning sunset on his canvas. As you can see, it was a breathtaking creation:
Great food and drink combined with great art live is a sure fire winner for something different to do this summer. Check out The Zoo at Trunk every Sunday between 2pm-7pm until 23 March.
