Seasonally apt make-up and skin care is important, and with spring here, it time to revamp your beauty kits! Fresh, illuminated, dewy skin is a perfect spring look to compliment balmy evenings and vibrant spirits.
To achieve a dewy complexion, it is essential to start with an appropriate primer. For a bedewed look, seek a primer with a ‘satin’ finish. Primers are especially important in terms of how the rest of your make up will sit on your skin. The best ones will brighten up your face through your foundation. Avoid any ‘mattifying’ make-up. Ensure your skin is appropriately prepped, as a good base is the foundation of this look, so ensure your skin is properly moisturised and hydrated. It should be if you have been taking care of your skin appropriately.
Primers
This can be used as a stand alone moisturiser, but is great underneath foundation for an opalescent, pearlised glow. This will hydrate your skin and prep it for a dewy finish, be sure to use sparingly though, a little goes a long way with this product. One pump should do you perfectly.
This hydrating part-primer, part-moisturiser gel smoothes and softens skin for a flawlessly natural look.
Concealers/Under Eye Illuminators
Concealers are a must under and around the eye to eliminate any darkness around the eye, then use an under eye illuminator to brighten up your under-eye area (ensure you are using different products for this – illuminators do not double as concealers). This step is often overlooked or carried out incorrectly. Instead of applying under eyes in a horizontal line, apply it in an upside-down triangle, beginning slightly below your lower lash line. Pat the product in until it is wholy blended. This will result in a bright, fresh and rested eye area. You can also dab this in just under the brow bone.
Touche Eclat by Yves Saint Laurent
Brighten up the face with this cult classic. Take it down the centre of the nose, forehead and chin, and across the top of the cheekbones then blend well for a natural finish.
Foundation
The best foundations for a fresh faced look are those with a thinner consestiency – avoid heavier foundations to acheive a lighter, dewier look. If desired, mix your foundation with a couple of drops of illuminator to pearlise your foundation and to look extra radiant.

Blushes
When trying to acheive a dewy look, it is best to stick to cream/liquid make-up, and blush is no exception. Dab on cream blushes and buff on the apples of your check with clean fingers carefully, or you can use a clean brush. The best spring colours are peach or a playful pink.
Finishing powders
It is best to avoid these as they mattify the skin. However, if you must, use a transulcent powder sparingly, taking it only through the T-zone. Omit this step if you have dry skin.
