Over 20,000 Melburnians are set to hit the streets once again for the city’s iconic winter sport event, Run Melbourne, on Sunday 25 July 2021. After a year of empty streets and cancelled events, the popular running festival is encouraging runners and walkers to come together and raise funds and awareness for their charities of choice. Having helped participants raise more than $18.5 million for over 400 charities since its inception in 2007, Run Melbourne invites participants to come together and set new goals, providing them with the opportunity to complete a half-marathon, 10-kilometre or five-kilometre run or walk through the streets of Melbourne in support of numerous charities in need.
Over the past 14 years the event has evolved into a movement which has changed the culture of running in Melbourne, with Lisa Holmes, CEO of event organiser, Sole Motive, explaining they hope to rally the community to meet this year’s target of $1 million. “At Sole Motive, we’re passionate about running and training and we know we can give extra meaning by supporting the causes we love. Giving is about more than money, it’s about the time, effort and voice that we give that makes the difference. It’s more important than ever that we give back to this city and to charities in need. We want this run to inspire Melburnians to join us, rally behind their favourite charity and make their run count in 2021.”
Run Melbourne will partner with Gatorade and 2XU to provide support to the runners with refreshments and limited-edition, custom merchandise gear. Known for its premier running shoe, Asics will be the official sponsor of the Asics Half-Marathon, with therapeutic massage gel, fisiocrem, sponsoring the fisiocrem 10K Run and Runner’s World returning as a sponsor for the Runner’s World 5K Run. Registrations are currently open at the Run Melbourne website, with raising funds and supporting charities made easy via the partner fundraising platform, Grassrootz.
Whether participants aim to challenge themselves, try something new for the first time or plan to raise money to support their cause, the event is a rewarding way to rediscover one of the most liveable cities in the world on foot.
