Reclaiming its former name, Hawthorn’s newest gastropub, The Auburn Hotel, has reopened its doors. After operating as the Geebung Polo Club for 18 years, the space has received a facelift and now features a modern but warm interior that still speaks of the pub’s history. Along with a cosy dining room, The Auburn Hotel boasts a Wine Room, Beer Garden and traditional public bar, allowing it to cater for a variety of social occasions.
The revamped Dining Menu celebrates local produce in a diverse selection of contemporary meals and pub classics. Chicken parmas and fish & chips are done as well as ever, and joined by modern Australian creations such as Cobia Ceviche and Braised Beef Cheek. An emphasis on premium meat is clear, with diners able to choose from a number of meats ranging from traditional Eye Fillets to Wallaby sausages, stright from the grill. The Dessert and Cheese Menu is small but sweet with a number of delicious options. You can’t argue with a steaming sticky date pudding.
The Wine Room features an extensive wine list with over 100 options. Looking through the wines on offer, it is clear that The Auburn has chosen to focus on tried and true Australian and New Zealand wines. Expect to see a number of your favourites, such as the Xanadu Cabernet Sauvignon, Squealing Pig Sauvignon Blanc, and Pacha Mama Shiraz. Guests can take part in wine tastings to choose a bottle to enjoy over dinner, or can settle in the Wine Room for a chat and a glass (or three).
Expect to see a full Beer Garden as the warm weather sets in. The space even includes a children’s play area to allow mum and dad to have a break and a vino, making the venue the perfect relaxed setting for the family.
The Auburn Hotel is currently taking bookings for Christmas Day lunch, taking the hassle out of the holiday. For just $99 per person, enjoy a delicious three-course menu with sides that is sure to satisfy even the fussiest of in-laws.
