Couturing has rounded up the best beauty looks straight off the Spring/Summer 16 Runway. With looks from Paris, New York, Milan and London Fashion Week, we have the tips and tricks to recreate some of the seasons’ hottest hair and makeup trends.
LONDON FASHION WEEK – BURBERRY
Burberry’s Spring/Summer 2016 runway channeled true London Rock-Chic with oxblood lips, strong brows and loose wavy locks. Inspired by the latest runway collection, Burberry Make-Up Artistic Consultant Wendy Rowe, created the satin skin with effortless contouring and nude open eyes from the latest products added to the line. Creating a ‘no-makeup’ makeup look is simple but can take some time. Follow our beauty tips straight from the master herself, when recreating the look for Spring.
FACE –
Wendy applied Fresh Glow Fluid Foundation with a make-up sponge and used Sheer Concealer to highlight the face – on the forehead, nose Cupid’s bow, chin and under eyes to diminish dark circles. Next, lightly apply Nude Powder for a satin, real-skin finish and contour the Burberry way, sweeping the slim Face Contour Pen under the cheekbones, jawless and along the nose to sculpt and softly define. The creamy, lightweight texture blends seamlessly to a silky, soft finish.
EYES –
For nude, open eyes, sweep Face Contour Pen along the eye socket to effortlessly adapt and elongate the eye shape. For barely there lashes, apply Curve Lash Mascara in Chestnut Brown No.02 to the curve of the lashes only. Apply Eye Colour Silk in Almond No.103 up to the socket line and blend softly with your finger. Next, add Effortless Kohl Eyeliner in Stone No.00 to the waterline to create an open feeling to the lower part of the eye. Grooming brows has never been so easy, with a swipe of Effortless Eyebrow Definer where needed to softly enhance your natural shape.
LIPS –
For statement bold lips, use Lip Definer in Oxblood No.14 to trace the outline of the lips before filling in with Lip Velvet in Oxblood No.437. The look should be soft and effortless rather than perfectly precise.
The new Burberry Make-up Collection will be available from February 2016. Burberry make-up is available from Burberry.com, selected Burberry stores and retailers worldwide.
NEW YORK FASHION WEEK – DIANE VON FURSTENBERG
In celebration of natural hair and beautiful women, Diane Von Furstenberg had us wanting more at the Spring/Summer 16 collection. Straight off the New York Runway, hairstylist Orlando Pita teamed up with TRESemmé to create some of the most gorgeous beach-vibe locks we’ve seen. Calling the ‘do ‘The Diane’, the voluptuous waves were a nod to the designer and how she wore her naturally curly hair back in the 70s.
“Whether in Ibiza, Portofino, Los Angeles, or Bali, I love seeing all the girls head out at night with their natural waves fresh from the beach, just tucked behind their ear with a flower. It reminded me of how I used to wear my own hair back in the 1970s and I wanted Orlando to inject that carefree vibe into the show,” said Diane.
Here’s how to achieve this seasons’ hottest hair!
Step 1: Start by washing your hair using Perfectly (un)Done Weightless Moisturizing shampoo and conditioner and rough dry.
Step 2: Create a deep side part. Layer Make Waves Shaping Gel, then Make Waves Shine Enhancing Cream, onto a 2 inch wide section of hair, twist and secure in a bun with a hair pin. Start with one row of buns at the base of the neck and then create a second row around the crown and forehead until all hair is secured.
Step 3: Use a hair dryer to dry each twisted bun, or leave to air dry. When dry, unravel each bun, pulling apart the hair twists as you unravel.
Step 4: Use a soft bristle brush to brush out the waves and lightly tease the front section to create soft volume.
Step 5: Finish the look by tucking your hair behind one ear and spraying Perfectly (un)Done Ultra Crushable Hairspray for flexible hold. Add pins or a hair accessory for additional interest where the hair is tucked back.
Creating eye-popping makeup with an array of aquamarine colours, makeup artist Pat McGrath applied shadow around the eyelids; upper and lower lash lines, then plenty of black mascara. Vibrant eyes were centre of attention, with the models glowing in fresh-faced coverage on the skin and flashed of highlighter, finished with dewy lips.
MILAN FASHION WEEK – ROBERTO CAVALLI
Creating the ultimate Tomboy inspired look straight off the runway at Milan Fashion Week. Roberto Cavalli and Redken Creative Director Guido Palau reinvented the modern ‘tomboy’ hair look using three products. Strong quiffs at the front and messy back are a perfect replicate of true 80s fashion.
“The look is very easy and unstructured since I created it using my fingers, so it’s something that a woman could really achieve for herself,” said Guido.
“I created a deep side part and then blow-dried the hair with REDKEN GUTS 10 to create a slight peak in the front and long and straight in the back, so it’s a bit boy in the front and girl in the back.”
CREATE THE LOOK –
Step 1: Start by spraying PILLOW PROOF Blow Dry Express Primer all over damp hair and comb throug
Step 2: Apply GUTS 10 Volumizing Spray-Foam to damp hair
Step 3: Using a round brush, blow-dry hair, lifting the crown up and to the side to create height in the front, and then blow-dry the back straight.
Step 4: Create a clean side part with a comb, keeping the lift in the front
Step 5: Finish with FORCEFUL 23 Strong Hold Anti-Humidity Hairspray all over hair, focusing at the top of the head for extra hold.
PARIS FASHION WEEK – ALEXANDER MCQUEEN
Fit for the occasion and location, Alexander McQueen put on the perfect soft romance look for his show in the City of Love. Redken Global Creative Director Guido Palau used a needle and thread to sew the model’s hair into beautiful, romantic updos. The Juliet-inspired tasseled locks were pulled back into an intricate waterfall with loose strands floating from the ends.
“I used Redken’s wind blown 05 to add some guts and texture to the hair, and then knotted the hair a bit in the thread, and then pulled it looser, so it’s very easy and natural,” said Guido.
“Then I just kept sewing it to create these loose, twisted loops down the length of the hair. All of the mistakes are sewn in, and they’re part of what makes the look so beautiful.”
Recreate the look for your next occasion by following these steps:
Step 1: Start with clean hair by washing with All Soft Shampoo and Conditioner
Step 2: Spray Redken One United all-in-one multi-benefit treatment all over damp hair and comb through
Step 3: Roughly blow-dry hair so it is smooth and slightly straight
Step 4: Spray Redken wind blown 05 dry finishing spray all over hair to enhance texture
Step 5: Take small sections of hair, starting from the top, and thread the hair so that it loops around itself and crosses over to the other side
Step 6: Continue threading small sections of hair down the full length of the hair
Step 7: Pull out random wispy pieces of hair from the loops so it’s a bit imperfect
