Melbourne turned it up a notch with gloriously perfect weather for Melbourne Cup day, perfect for bright coloured dresses and headwear to grace the track.
In the Birdcage, international guests sizzled in their gorgeous racewear with two of the world’s most famous models, making an appearance at Flemington.
Dazzling international supermodel, Coco Rochas, dressed in Peter Pilotto dress with an oversized Nerida Winter bow headpiece, really summed up why girls love the Melbourne Cup Carnival “When do you ever have the chance to wear a hat and a beautiful dress?”
Joining Coco in the Birdcage was Sports Illustrated model, Kate Upton, in an Antonio Berardi figure-hugging dress who spent the day enjoying the view from the Emirates Marquee.
Burlesque siren and style icon, Dita Von Teese, wowed racegoers with her 50’s style white skirt suit in the Myer Marquee. Here to promote her lingerie range, sold exclusively at Myer, Von Teese’s ensemble was a nod to the classic yet sexy style she’s known for, especially with the magenta lace bustier under her white jacket.
Also in the Myer marquee, one of Australia’s favourite girls (and the face of Myer), Jennifer Hawkins, dressed by Yeojin Bae in a delicate one-sleeved red lace dress with a crown by Nerida Winter, enjoyed the day sipping on drinks with Myer men’s ambassador, Kris Smith, dressed in a striking pinstripe navy suit. Rebecca Judd was stunning in a Toni Maticevski neoprene dress with bright pink accents, and former Miss Universe Australia, Laura Dundovic was stunning in tangerine.
Over at the Lavazza Bar, Lavazza style ambassador, Nadia Coppolino, was gorgeous in an orange Scanlan and Theodore one shoulder dress, rocking it with music legend, Richie Sambora from Bon Jovi. Sambora, an avid race-goer, did an impromptu live performance of Bon Jovi’s famous anthem, Livin’ on a Prayer, with Caterina Torres from The Voice, and brought the house down. Also bring their musical talent to the fore, was internationally renowned DJ, Roger Sanchez, who performed his latest track for guests.
Over at the Schweppes Bar, the cocktail bar was in full swing with mixologists making signature cocktails from some of Melbourne’s favourite bars, and of course, the famous Flemington Fling. Guests were also lucky to sample items from some of Melbourne’s best restaurants including Chin Chin, St Crispin, The Estelle and Saigon Sally. Emma Freedman, Bar Schweppes’ celebrity tipster, provided her expert tips to punters looking for a win whilst DJs mixed it up on the decks.
Melbourne Cup Day 2013 proved to be a day filled with colourful fashion and fun.
