Spirit of the Black Dress is a fantastic fashion and sustainability initiative supported by a group of some of Australia’s most well known fashion industry figures, including Jane Hayes, Phoebe Garland, Jenny Bannister, Philip Boon, Sarah Gale and Kyra Pybus. Last night was the Spirit of the Black Dress Gala Event held at The Trust Melbourne. The night was split into two sections, a delightful gala event where guests were delightfully dressed (so lovely – the venue was just stunning) and a runway show.
Heading into its fourth year, Spirit showcases some of Australia’s most talented and exciting designers. This year was no exception with the top 10 winning designer for 2012 (Christina Exie, Gabriella Ferrante, Emmarose Kinsman, Lisa Taranto, Bhalo, Berri Drum, Sonya Kraan, Bento, Jessica Robertson and Kate Aikins) all displaying innovative style and design.
A wonderful initiative where only certain designers are chosen for their work in sustainability amongst other creative aptitudes, however we wish we could comment on the runway and the clothes in greater detail. The clothes as lovely as they are, were difficult to see from our vantage point. Behind the seated area was the photographers pit, behind that was the standing area (where Couturing was placed), which was a shame as seeing the apparel was almost impossible, let alone seeing the short film – so it’s unfortunate we cannot comment on these wonderful designers. Thankfully our photographer had prime position and got some lovely snaps which we hope you’ll enjoy.
