Looking after your best asset, your skin, is a lifelong pursuit for some. Skincare is something that should be introduced during your teenage years and carried throughout the rest of your life. Education is crucial and as your skin matures and changes through out all the stages of life, it is important to treat your skins needs. Now it’s impossible for someone to meet their skins full potential at home with a basic skincare routine. At some point, whether it be though teenage acne, adult acne, the early signs of ageing or the emergence of pigmentation during pregnancy etc, you are going to need the assistance of a skincare professional. This is where Derya Koch of the Victorian Dermal Group in Kew, comes into it. On visiting Derya (my now skincare guru) for a salicylic skin peel to treat my congestion and dullness, we talked skin and I picked her brain as to what women should be doing, what are the latest treatments and what programme I should follow to get the best out of my skin etc. This is when Derya shared with me her own struggle with skin pigmentation, an issue that affects many women, especially during pregnancy, and is very difficult, if not impossible to treat.
Not only is the Victorian Dermal Group special because it is at the cutting edge with the latest non-surgical skin treatments, including skin peels and Pro laser technology, but Derya and the staff there set you up with realistic goals using the latest and most effective treatments out there. Through her own struggle with Melasma, Derya discovered a ground breaking peel treatment, that for the first time completely rid her of the dark melanin patches that she had suffered with on her face for years and now she is sharing it with other women and getting amazing results. This is why the Dermal Group is unlike any other clinic I have been to, there is no promises of the unattainable or confusing jargon to lead you to unrealistic goals, but rather a promise of doing their best to give you the best skin result possible.
For those of us with good, average or even ok skin, we might not understand what it’s like to walk a mile in the shoes of someone who has less than ideal skin. Often people with skin complaints search unsuccessfully for cures to their issues and end up spending extreme amounts of money on products that don’t work. Pigmentation is an issue that affects more and more women. There are so many forms of pigmentation, some easier to treat than others, and some are near impossible. The condition that Derya suffered from is a hormonal form of pigmentation that is quite dark on the face and occurs in the deepest layer of skin, where lasers don’t work. There are products out there such as skin bleachers and exfoliators that promise to cure you but end up exacerbating the problem. Likewise there are people promoting laser technologies that not only cost a fortune but are painful and simply don’t work. This is why I was so captivated by Derya’s own experience with pigmentation and how this spurred her to search every available option to cure herself, and eventually led her to find Spanish skin technology company Mesoestetic. Which, for the first time not only reduced her pigmentation, but caused it to disappear completely and stay that way! Thanks to this product, Derya is able to now help other women with all types of pigmentation, and change lives forever.
The product from Mesoestetic, is called Cosmelan. It is essentially a slow saturating mask treatment that is kept on the skin for 10 hours. After a five day recovery period the skin will peel heavily and remove the effected skin, down to the layers that produce the melanin.
A maintenance cream is used to keep pigmentation at bay and the treatment should be performed once a year, or twice for severe cases. Cost per treatment is $949. It may seem pricey, but when you consider the results for people who have bought every product known to man in a bid to treat Melasma, and failed, this treatment is nothing short of a miracle.
