It might only be Monday but the countdown to the weekend has already started and we’ve got the latest and greatest place for you to head to once the clock ticks over to the end of your week.
Saké Flinders Lane is Melbourne’s new late night destination with a stylish downstairs bar open until 3am Thursday to Saturday. There’s a mix of stools at the bar, sleek high-top tables, ambient low coffee tables and chairs, as well as a gorgeous outdoor, heated Japanese zen courtyard – a unique point of difference on Flinders Lane – where guests can socialise under the stars until the early hours. The bar been is available until 2am to satisfy those with early morning hunger pangs with a range of delicious and limited edition dishes including sushi and sashimi, seven different melt-in-your-mouth, and three nourishing ramen, including a satsumaimo (Japanese sweet potato) ramen, a pork ramen that uses house-smoked pork bones in the broth and finely sliced Tasmanian squid for the ‘noodles’, and a roast chicken dashi with toasted rye noodles. These ramen are only available on the bar menu.
The drinks menu features a huge number of saké, shochu, Japanese whiskies and micro-brewed Japanese beers, including those from Coedo, Niigata and Hitachino. Seasonal cocktails give the talented bar team the chance to experiment with unusual and seasonal ingredients. There’s a shiitake-infused Hakushu single malt cocktail; a cheesecake martini combining Appleton VX Jamaican rum, yuzu juice, mascarpone and blueberries; and a smoky BBQ version of a Bloody Mary.
The bar also features a spectacular library of 80 gorgeous urns of shochu (‘show-chew’: a traditional distilled spirit). Buy and store your own personal shochu urn at Saké Flinders Lane, or choose one of a number of shochu on the menu, including house-made infusions and chu-hai (Japanese highball).
A permanent DJ booth in the downstairs bar is home to a stellar line-up of resident and visiting DJs. Saké Flinders Lane features a rotating schedule of talent every Thursday to Saturday, with Thursday featuring local legends, ladies curating the music on Fridays, and the boys joining the gals on Saturdays.
