In support of the future of unique Australian fashion, One Thousand Cranes launched their opening exhibition last week at the unassuming location of the Londsdale Bridge at Melbourne Central. Characteristic to Melbourne culture, the showcase space was a nice, fresh surprise hiding at the back of a shopping centre. As they say, if you look, you will find.
The exciting space provides a niche for local and independent fashion designers displaying their creative talent from Melbourne and Australia. Their vision is to bring to life the dreams of aspiring fashion labels, giving them a chance under the spotlight. The name “One Thousand Cranes” alludes to this. It was chosen to represent the story of the thousand origami cranes, an old Japanese legend that claims that anyone who folds a thousand origami cranes will have their wish come true or be granted eternal good luck.
Complimentary Lucky Duck cider and scrumptious sweets were serves as guests arrived at the boutique retail space last week. Each local designer had their own rack of clothes set up in line with each other so guests walked through like laneways, discovering each label’s creations.
The team from Style Me 365 were positioned at the back for all personal styling needs and guests to the launch were invited to try on garments and get styling tips from some of the best.
Designers from the night included Mina & Katusha with a range of sophisticated and structured pieces; Lisa Taranto with sequins and brights; Eat.me.do standing out with tantalizing jewellery that everyone wanted to touch; Eva Q Huynh reminded us of Alice in Wonderland with a range of very feminine styled dresses highlighted with lace and sheets; Mikey In The Van was a sure favourite with eclectic digital prints including jewels, trees and tribal prints. Very on trend for this season!
Other noteworthy labels on display were Leonard St, Sleepinaround, Hangmyhangers and many more!
Next time you’re shopping around Melbourne Central, be sure to step into the unique space and check it all out for yourself! You never know, you may even come out with a new favourite wardrobe item!
