On the runway, nails are just as striking as the collections themselves, creating a higher emphasis on what we wear on our nails and how they can become a fashion statement on their own. From ombré nails to zigzag and Aztec prints, nails have stolen the spotlight and it seems that nail trends are not going to disappear anytime soon.
Bright pops of colour have adorned the runways and shop windows this season, and the neon craze is definitely one to try out on your fingertips. Bright bold neons are replacing the dark colours we have had on our hands over the winter. China Glaze has released their new collection called Summer Neons with bright yellow hues and hot pinks available. O.P.I. also has a collection of neon colours ranging from yellow to orange and from pink to blue. With names like Don’t Talk Bach To Me ($19.95) – a lime-yellow hue – and A Roll in the Hague ($19.95) – a tangerine colour perfect for sun kissed tones – these fantastic colours are simply irresistible for Spring.
Another way to incorporate neon nails is to revamp the French manicure with a modern twist. Just by simply adding a fluoro colour to the tip of your nails, you will be staying on trend with this season’s ‘it’ colours. Butter London have created vibrant, bright colours such as a juicy orange named Jaffa ($22) as well as a lime green lacquer Squatter ($22) which are both fitting colours to add to the tip of a neutral nail.
The reverse moon manicure or reverse French manicure is also a creative way to integrate neon colours into your look without going overboard. This look, as its name suggests, is just like a French manicure but upside down and is one that allows you to experiment with different shades of colours to paint on your nails. You can keep it simple with a neutral blush colour then paint a neon pink crescent shape to make it eye-catching.
When experimenting with this trend, it is essential to make sure your nails are perfectly groomed, as they will be receiving quite a bit of attention. When wearing neon nail polish it is best to keep your nails short and filed into an almond shape. It is also best when sporting the trend to keep your outfit simple in order to avoid any clashes.
Neon nail polish is not exclusive to your fingernails: paint your toes vibrant shades of pink and oranges to join in on the trend and keep your toes in vogue. Wearing neon nails is a great subtle way to embrace the trend if a bright lime shirt or neon pink pants are something you are shying away from.
