In his tenth year as Hair Director of Melbourne Spring Fashion Week, internationally acclaimed session stylist, Kevin Murphy, returned to his home town to celebrate fashion and style at Melbourne Spring Fashion Week 2013. Bringing his statement styles, Kevin offers insights into the upcoming hair trends for the season ahead and the latest looks that we’ll see across different fashion spreads.
Supported by his esteemed team of KEVIN.MURPHY Session.Stylists, Murphy kicked off this year’s MSFW with a bang, opting for a modern-punk theme for Designer Runway 1. The spectacular opening evening was all about Couture, celebrating exquisite Australian designers such as Aurelio Costarella, Craig Braybrook, Dom Bagnato, Gwendolynne, Jasongrech, Jayson Brundson, Nicolangëla and Richard Nylon.
“Because the show had very glamorous garments, we wanted to make a statement with the hair so we bobbed more than 30 wigs and gave them a multi-textural feel,” said Murphy. “The bobbed styles really complement the embellished gowns by keeping the shoulders clear to expose the neck and silhouette. “The punk cropped fringes give hair a strong, modern edge that works really well with feminine clothing.”
To achieve the look, wigs were set and cut; with Murphy using traditional marcel waving techniques and hair ornaments to achieve the modern, edgy style.
For the show, Kevin used his new SHIMMER.SHINE (RRP $39.95) to add a light shimmer to the style. SESSION.SPRAY (RRP $32.95) and FRESH.HAIR (RRP $32.95) were used to set the style.
