Never one to shy away from a luxe setting, Australian fashion icon Mimco took over Docklands Studios to transport their audience for their A/W 14 runway into a vintage-filter ready world of the fictionatrix. What’s that like? Think rich, decadent jewel tones and Old Hollywood glamour, which can be seen serving as the inspiration behind the collection, and with an elaborate gilded cage centre stage, add in a touch of whimsy.
The styling showed there’s value in doing away with the old ‘less is more’ adage, with each model spectacularly draped in jewellery, saddle bags, and hair pieces from the collection where the show collects its title from, with the models appearing like 19th century aristocrat-meets-blogger hybrids.
If there’s one take away from the show, it’s this season, don’t be afraid to go bold. Bright colours, large proportions, and geometric prints were amongst some of the recurring trends throughout the runway, all completed off with the luxe, signature Mimco hardware that the brand is renowned for.
Although the entire collection is covetable, my favourite pieces were the brilliant coloured leather backpacks, the perfectly styled hip bags (worn, literally, around the hip for the show), and the throwback low pumps – a soon to be classic.
If you weren’t able to make the show, don’t worry! Every piece from the collection shown is available to purchase online at mimco.com.au right now, and to get a glimpse into the world of the Fictionatrix, watch their fashion film below.
