Fate & Chance – SS13/14
Manning Cartell’s Spring Summer 13/14 collection, Fate & Chance, continued the brand’s easy and chic aesthetic with their signature use of prints and luxe fabrics. The show opened with a white-out, with pieces that featured sheer panels or cut-outs that gave the appearance of criss-crossed tape, which was repeated in black and white on a statement monochrome jacket.
To complement these all-white ensembles, the new collection’s feature print has lilac and tan graphics on a clean white background, and was cut in many styles such a long, dramatic cape-back shirt that floated down the runway. Embellishments gave a touch of glamour to jumpers and cropped tops while apricot-coloured neoprene found itself in boxy silhouettes.
Juxtaposing these boxy shapes, the label presented a streamlined, ladylike silhouette with form-fitting dresses. Hemlines were dropped, falling at just below the knee, with many having a mesh layer that continued to the mid-calf. These mesh layers were a highlight in the collection, adding dimension and texture while still being a perfect summer fabric.
As ever, Manning Cartell presented an edgy but sophisticated collection that every modern woman covets. Expect the label’s new signature print to be the coveted print of the season, and embrace all-white as the new trend for next summer!
