The Group Swim event reminded us that post winter 2013, we have much to look forward to when we hit the beach for Summer 2014. The four headline labels for this show: SKYE & staghorn, maidenlove, Gypsea, Surface Too Deep.
SKYE & staghorn
SKYE & Staghorn’s Calypso SS13/14 collection was reminscent of the cool athletic women that frequent the beach in their sports luxe style. With nautical blues, emeshed with white and orange hues, the line was sleek and on trend with scuba and mesh and bold colours. The contemporary line also had pops of khaki green and a nod to camo which is extending its popularity into SS 13/14.
maidenlove
The inspiration fo this collection was designer Kirstin Sikiotis’started with a Rodqiguez song called Silver Magic Ships, singer MIAs style and photos by Bill Henson and Harper Smith. The collection was a myriad of patterns, graphics, geometric design with a kaleidoscope of digital floral. Vivid animal prints and metallics were highlights of the collection.
Gypsea
Gypsea designers Scott Bauer and Emma Brereton’s Elements collection is inspired by the natural elements – Earth, Water, Air and Fire. The collection draws from the colours found in nature and also reflects the beauty of nature itself. Gypsea brings together photography and fashion, pushing the boundaries of wearable art. With graphics of coast and its surrounds, and even a cat face graphic, it is a memorable collection.
Surface Too Deep
The Summer 13/14 collection represents Sufrace Too Deep’s fourth collection. The in-house digital prints and fashion focused silhouettes evoke a nostalgia for an era gone by but with a fashion forward focus. The collection, aptly named, The Amazing Adventures of Bonnie and Belle, represent the past adventures of friends, filled with fun and frivolity. The designs are colourful hues of blues, pinks and reds, with an ode to the 50’s silhouette in some of the designs. Surface Too Deep’s collection is a sure bet to stand out from the crowd!
