As much as Fashion Week sounds like it will be a glamourous mix of clothes, makeup, parties and drinking, it’s actually a lot of hard work. It’s not unusual to be up till 3am every morning typing up the day’s runways, which wouldn’t be so bad, except for the facts that the next day’s shows generally start at the unfashionable hour of 9 or 10am. Unfortunately in an industry where Celine, Phillip Lim and Alexander Wang bags are the norm, eye bags aren’t gonna cut it.
These are the things I’m hoping will keep me sane this week!
1. Snacks
I feel the need to eat ALL the time. The Hunger Games could easily be the title of my autobiography. Even if I’m not hungry, I will always look around for something to chew on. Trail mix is great as it fits easily in your bag and will help keep hunger pains at bay.
2. Eight Hour Cream
This baby hasn’t become a cult product for nothing. Great for putting on before lip colour, this versatile cream can be used to get dry skin at bay.
3. Organiser and note book
I love this Louis Vuitton Diary. It’s great for keeping tracking of my schedule and taking down notes from each show. It’s just the right size to be small enough to carry around, but also easy to find in my overpacked bag.
4. Ipad
I’ve decided to give my poor shoulders a rest this year and have decided to carry an iPad to work on in between show. Rather than lugging a laptop around or coming back to the hotel after a day of shows and having to face another 5 hours working, a tablet is great for getting work done on the go.
5. Sunnies
Great for hiding tired eyes, I’m planning on wearing these Karen Walkers for most of fashion week.
6. Camera
I love this Pentax K-01. It’s light enough to carry enough but has more than enough firepower to capture some great street style, runway and backstage snaps.
7. Foundation
Giorgio Armani’s Luminous Silk does a great cover up job and as an added bonus is long lasting.
8. Bag
I’m definitely an overpacker so a structured bag like this Alexander Wang Pelican Satchel from Green With Envy makes it easy to find all your belongings.
As an added note, getting a shellac manicure is a fantastic way to ensure your nails stay chip proof all week. Party feet are also great to minimise foot pain from excessive high heel wear, and bandaids are a must, particularly if you are wearing new shoes!
