An Exaggerated Interpretation
Toni Maticevski’s designs are all about flattering the female form. His Summer 2014 ready-to-wear collection focuses on putting a modern twist on traditional notions of feminine silhouettes. The palette centers around soft lilacs, fluro grapefruit, swirls of blacks and whites, with punctuations of bold red making a dramatic statement. Delicate hand beading, gold tweet and tailored sateen add a touch of luxury to the garments.
The idea of volume is explored throughout the collection, with fitted pencil skirts offset by ruffled detailing around the waist and fluted skirt. Coats are full and cocooned shape and tops are relaxed with a sporty silhouette.
Maticevski’s recent collections have fused a love of sports-luxe, emphasised by the use of racer-back tops and neoprene fabrics. These designs carry on that trend with luxe sports inspired fabrics and feminine detailing in the way of ruffled peplums, full trapeze skirts and bustier tops. Weaved through the collection is ‘an evil twist of elegance’ which provides an alluring juxtaposition to the strong feminine lines.
Speaking about the woman behind the collection, Maticevski says she is ‘sensitive but wronged. She has strength and guts. She has a sensuality, which she is not afraid to show off or disguise by soft voluminous shapes.’
While classic feminine shapes are a nod to the past, Maticevski’s signature tailoring, use of strong lines and unexpected fabrications, gives the collection a modern touch which is sure to have women everywhere stocking their wardrobes with Maticevski this season.
