Melbourne label LIFEwithBIRD has partnered with renowned Spanish artist Ernesto Artillo to create a mesmerizing blend of art and fashion, realised through a series of collaborative artworks.
Artillo’s signature fashion illustration style uses entirely collaged images, merging fashion imagery withanything from flowers, cliffs, renaissance paintings and architectural structures, to create a beautifully surrealist outcome. For this partnership, LIFEwithBIRD designers Bridget McCall and Nicholas Van Messner produced a series of beautiful images featuring model Lola McDonnell, then handed these over to the artist to reinterpret in his own inimitable style.
“For me, collage is a technique that allows you to break the conventions of art- making,” said Artillo of his work. “It allows you to literally break images apart for the purpose of exploring and re-arranging them in a way that is more meaningful to your current state of emotions. Collage has allowed me to express what there is behind images and in turn, expand on the emotion within an image.”
Inspired by the sense of lightness within the imagery – clean lines juxtaposed with the bright colours – Ernesto identified the LIFEwithBIRD woman as someone with a strong sense of fashion and an artistic attitude, who uses clothing as an expression of her personality. Ernesto’s artwork portrays this woman through the bold manipulation of those images; a constant sense of exploration by breaking images apart and piecing them back together. The idea of finding balance within this chaos is a notion that LIFEwithBIRD has explored in previous years, further galvanizing the validity of this unique and striking visual collaboration.
The artwork will be available to order exclusively through the LIFEwithBIRD website. Each print will measure 330x480mm, printed on Hahnemuhle William Turner paper.
