Thanks to Progressive PR, I was lucky enough to check out the Melbourne production of Legally Blonde the musical this week. As with all movie to theatre adaptations, it can often be a difficult transition from the silver screen to the stage. Theatre star Lucy Durack had the daunting task of stepping into the hot pink heels made famous by Reese Witherspoon and she didn’t disappoint. With her big voice and bubbly personality, Durack was the perfect Woods. Flanked by her hilarious Delta Nu posse, Durack danced her way into Harvard law school to follow her love, Warner, played expertly by Rob Mills of Australian Idol and Celebrity Apprentice fame.

Cameron Daddo was pitch perfect as the successful but sleazy Professor Callahan and Erika Heynatz not only showed off her fine singing skills as murder suspect and celebrity exercise queen Brooke, but also her toned abs which would make anyone want to run for the gym! Stage star David Harris was great as lawyer and Durack’s love interest Emmett, but arguably, the most popular stars were dogs Bruiser and Rufus who had all the crowd cheering whenever they took to the stage.

Legally Blonde is fantastic show experience and a must see, not only for theatre lovers, but for those looking for a fun night out!

You can buy tickets on line now, but make sure you get in quick as show is due to finish it’s run on 14 July 2013.
