CELEBRATE INTERNATIONAL COFFEE DAY

As you all might know by now, I love coffee and reading about it on dailyespresso.co.uk to keep up with its latest trends. But when I read that officially, Australians love coffee; it was hard to believe at first. Did you know that 90% of our population drinks coffee? And that on average we spend $1,825 on takeaway coffee a year on getting our caffeine fix?

These are some of the interesting facts that have come out of the National Coffee Report commissioned by Australia’s leading coffee maker brand DéLonghi which we’ve reviewed to share some interesting research and draw inspiration for to celebrate International Coffee day today 20 September.

Taking our obsession to extremes, the National Coffee Report,  reveals coffee is so integral to the Aussie way of life; it has even become the basis of social stereotyping. According to the report, the most common coffee, the Flat White, is consumed by ‘down-to-earth and laid back’ types, while Long Black drinkers are perceived to be ‘plain and boring’. Espresso-lovers must be doing something right with 1 in 5 seeing them as ‘successful’ meanwhile Australians have labelled Latte drinkers ‘high-maintenance’.

Victorians are the biggest coffee drinks, consuming 3-4 cups per day with 29% of Aussie drinks consuming 3-4 cups a day on average.

So it’s not just the coffee itself that matters but also how we make it and the tools we use.  Over a third (37%) prefer to make their coffee at home to ensure it’s made perfectly and it can cost as little as 28c per cup on average to make it home. This means that the tools and machines are also important in ensuring we get our favourite drink just how we like it.

Let’s celebrate International coffee day with some of our favourite coffee products and machines.
