Contrary to the usual clinical-looking OPSM stores, OPSM on Collins is a brightly lit showroom, with evident attention to detail in the design of the store. Strategically placed glass cabinets at the forefront of the store encase some of the most expensive sunglasses and optical frames in all of Australia. On entrance, our olfactory senses were greeted by a fragrance which had been personalised specifically for the Collins Street boutique. Composed with notes of blackberry, caramel and musk, it is definitely a scent that leaves an indelible impression – exclusive to #OPSMonCollins.
OPSM Senior Buyer, Rebecca Demetriou, fondly divulges her adventures sourcing and scouring the world for unique sunglasses and opticals. For her, it isn’t just about selling a pair of expensive branded sunglasses but rather the delicate craftsmanship and impressive technology behind the process of creating a pair of frames. One of her most recent treasure finds is the Bvlgari Le Gemme optical frames that retails for AUD$7500 – set with 10 pear shaped mother of pearl flowers, it is the only existing pair in Australia. She also proffers the Dolce & Gabbana Mosaico limited edition sunglasses (RRP$7800) to eye level and points out that all the tiny flowers on the frames have been pieced together with over 1000 venetian glass tiles.
