Friday marks the start of 16 days of food fun by the banks of the Yarra! Starting on the 14th of November, Melbournians will flock to the Night Noodle Market at its new home at Birrarung Marr, where gourmands will celebrate the colour, sounds and smells of an authentic Asian hawker market.
One of the most exciting events of Good Food Month, the Night Noodle Market brings together some of Melbourne’s favourite restaurants in one place, meaning you can get your fill of delicious Roast pork belly w soba noodle, spring onion and soy ginger dressing from Kong, caramelised sticky pork from Chin Chin and tasty Xiao Long Bao from New Shanghai.
We take a sneak peak at some of the delectable offerings from a few of the restaurants at the Night Noodle Market.
New Shanghai
The renowned Asian restaurant has created a bespoke menu; fusing the traditional with the contemporary, especially for its debut at the Night Noodle Market. Think Truffle Xiao Long Bao (steamed pork dumplings, infused with shaved truffle and truffle oil), Crispy duck steamed buns, and classic favourites including the coveted New Shanghai Xiao Long Bao, Pan-fried pork buns, Asian spiced vegetarian dumplings and spring onion pancakes.
Have sampled the Noodle Market menu at a preview last week, there is no doubt that the delicious food offerings at New Shanghai will be a crowd favourite.
Chin Chin
This year’s offering from Chin Chin will be more extensive that last year with some favourites from the restaurant menu making an appearance.
Expect to see dishes such as Green curry of chicken dumplings, baby corn and pea eggplants, Massaman curry of braised beef, peanuts and rice, Caramelised sticky pork w sweet fish sauce and sour herb salad, Pork or Tofu slider w sriracha, kewpie and cabbage slaw, and an exciting Chilli caramel popcorn.
Kong
Kong makes its Night Noodle Market debut with its amazing Japanese and Korean dishes. It will be located next to Chin Chin and will be serving up its famous Steamed buns – Spicy Pork belly, pickled cucumber and crazy horse sauce, and P’nut butter s&p tofu w burnt chilli mayo.
Other Kong favourites include Korean fried wings w honey, garlic & sesame, Roast pork belly w soba noodle, spring onion and soy ginger dressing, and Kimchi & egg fried rice with 16 hr beef brisket.
Hammer & Tong
Hammer & Tong will serve up some of their favourites including the Soft Shell Crab burger with sesame slaw, coriander, sriracha mayo and spring onion, and Red & Black rice salad with broad beans, peas, pomegranate, mint and grapefruit mignonette. The menu will also feature sweet delights such as Sriracha caramel chocolate bar.
