Frankie Says is the latest venture from the masterminds that have bought us Hoy Pinoy, The Meatball Company and Cafe Italia. Frankie Says is one of the new additions to the burgeoning food scene in Abbotsford and located just on the Yarra, it’s a great spot for al fresco dining or just dining with a view.
We caught up with Frankie Says founder Megan Phillips to find out more about the new dining venture.
We love the name Frankie Says! Can you tell us a bit about what inspired the name?
We like to have a bit of fun with what we do and who we are, so the team were all messing around one day trying to think of a name for the place when we started singing Relax by Frankie Goes to Hollywood. The name Frankie Says stuck!
Frankie Says has such a lovely spot by the Yarra. What makes it so different and what drew you to the location?
We are so lucky with our location, it really makes you feel like you are somewhere else. Sitting looking out over the trees right by the Yarra you would never think you are only minutes from the city. We were sold on the location as soon as we saw it and there is no other place in Melbourne like it!
Where have you gotten your inspiration for the menu?
The menu is inspired by our sunny, outdoor location – fresh food, done really well. We are all about high quality, authentic ingredients. We wanted the menu to change on a regular basis to keep all the local residents (and ourselves!) interested, so we will be mixing up the dishes every couple of weeks with a few of the favourites staying on.
When you get a day off or time to spare, where do you head to for a meal?
Anywhere that you can have shared food as I get really bad food envy so it’s nice to have a little bit of everything! Coda and Touché Hombre are two places I keep going back to for this reason.
Do you have a favourite food or dish?
It’s so hard to pick a favourite, I just really like food! I love trying new combinations of different flavours and at the moment we’ve been experimenting with quinoa pudding, tonka beans, fairy floss and stewed rhubarb.
Frankie Says is located at 15 Acacia Place, Abbotsford and will be open seven days a week for breakfast and lunch, from 7am – 4pm weekdays and 8am – 5pm weekends. Dinner will be coming soon so watch this space.
