Ladurée has officially opened the brand’s first Melbourne luxury Parisian tea room in Chadstone’s new redevelopment.

Founded in Paris in 1862, Ladurée is a luxury global patisserie, world famous for its opulent Macarons and Tea Houses. This site is Ladurée Australia’s third location, following two existing stores in Sydney’s Westfield and Woollahra.

Melbourne’s new Ladurée houses a stunning 9-seater marble bar featuring a delicate mosaic artwork, within an opulent Parisian-inspired tearoom seating 21. Ladurée sits at twelve metres high, boasting the best vantage point of Chadstone’s new grid shell roof.

The Corner has officially reopened its rooftop following substantial renovations. The historic venue has stood on the corner of Swan Street, Richmond, since the nineteenth century and has been a popular live music venue since the 1940s. Just in time for its 20th anniversary under current ownership, The Corner reveals its spacious new rooftop, with an indoor dining area, outdoor courtyard and private function spaces, plus an impressive new menu and bar offering.

The Corner’s rooftop redevelopment is grounded in its ongoing commitment to loyal patrons as well as to future generations. Designed to produce the best experience for all patrons, the new rooftop is a reinvestment in the next 20 years of great food, drinks, service and music at The Corner.

The Corner’s Head Chef, Shannon Rice, has put together a new menu of premium pub food with a new focus on shared dishes. Comforting classics rub shoulders with delectable share dishes such as the whole smoked pork hock with apple and caraway slaw, pickles, mayo and mini milk buns; or the whole roasted eggplant with quark, lemon herb toasted almonds, house made flatbread and pomegranate molasses.

The new late-night menu includes tasty bar bites and snacks that perfectly complement the front bar’s substantial beverage offering, including a luscious new wine list. Vegetarian options are also plentiful across all menus, including the roasted bloody beetroot salad with blue lentils, rye grain, barley, caramelised walnuts, goat’s cheese and herbs. Lunch and dinner will now be available from Tuesday through to Sunday.

SIMON JOHNSON #HIREMESIMON COMPETITION PICKS ITS WINNER

Simon Johnson, Ross Lusted, Alice Lau, Peter Gilmore

Last week, in front of a gathering of Sydney foodie VIPs in the Simon Johnson Woollahra store, the competition to find Simon Johnson’s Instagram Food Star was decided in a showdown between the two finalists, stylist Cecilia Bloom and blogger Alice Lau. In arguably the toughest job interview in history, the two #HireMeSimon finalists battled it out in a live instagram demonstration judged by Simon Johnson and two of Australia’s top chefs, Peter Gilmore and Ross Lusted, who after much deliberation, named Alice Lau the winner. And there was much at stake. Having beaten a field of over 500 applicants, winner Alice Lau will now commence her dream job as Simon Johnson’s Instagram Food Stylist, spending her days shooting, styling and tasting everything from caviar to truffles, pasta to prosciutto, olives to Ortiz anchovies and mingling with Australia’s leading producers.

Alice Lau hails from a family of foodies. Her parents owned a restaurant and she grew up with a love of food which, five years ago, she parleyed into a blog and a business, Girl in a Food Frenzy. Alice was understandably overwhelmed to have taken out the Number One spot. “The chance to work with Simon Johnson – to work with his incredible producers and the best, most exciting produce from overseas and Australia – is a dream come true. Honestly, I’m still getting over being in a room with Peter Gilmore, Ross Lusted and Simon Johnson. I haven’t processed the fact that I’ve won!”

Commenting on the judging, Peter Gilmore said: “Both Alice Lau and Cecilia Bloom did an incredible job under difficult circumstances. They both truly understood the Simon Johnson ethos and their posts were beautiful. In the end, Alice’s ability to tell a story with her pictures won the day. We’re very excited to celebrate her win with her”. Says Simon Johnson, the man behind Australia’s leading providore: “Never before has the photo been as important as the meal, and our #HireMeSimon winner Alice Lau is a born story-teller. She is as passionate about food and great produce, and we are looking forward to working with her to visually inspire and educate food lovers, to share the stories behind Simon Johnson and the wonderful producers that we work with every day.”
