Derby Day not only is the start of the Flemington Spring Racing Carnival, but is widely regarded as the most fashionable day. Maybe, but with the monochrome dress code, it’s definitely the most quintessential Melbourne race day event. In a spectacular change of weather, the fashion crowd followed the sun into the Birdcage,

This year the Emirates marquee looks domestically, celebrating the best that Australia has to offer. The marquee is dressed in gorgeous native fauna, and the seafood-heavy menu is a highlight of the precinct. Notable guests included Julie Bishop, Osher Gunsberg, Lindy Klim and Curtis Stone.

The Sensis marquee added a little Hollywood star power, inviting actor Scott Eastwood to be a part of their festivities. Joined by celebrities including Samantha Jade, the inaugural outing in the Birdcage was certainly one to talk about.

If you were looking to rub shoulders with the fashion crowd, you’d want to be at the Myer marquee. Regarded as one of the most exclusive (and beautiful) marquees of the carnival, members of the Myer squad including Jennifer Hawkins, Jodi Gordon and Rachael Finch filled the beautifully decorated space in their signature style.

Lavazza is regarded as the best party marquee, and with this year’s theme bringing a touch of Milan to Flemington (designed by Neal Whitaker), it certainly lived up to expectations. Guests included Megan Gale, Alex Perry, Bec and Leyton Hewitt and more, and were treated to a delicious menu designed by Adam D’Sylva as well as the perfect aperitifs for the day.
