GORMAN X HANDPICKED WINES
In celebration of Gorman’s pop-up exhibition that was held at Melbourne’s Heide Museum – Gorman: Ten Years of Collaborating – Handpicked Wines has created two bespoke wines with the popular Australian clothing label. The limited-edition Pinot Noir and Chardonnay wines were especially created for the project and come from Handpicked’s flagship Capella Vineyard in the Mornington Peninsula. The labels have been designed by Lisa Gorman and feature a retrospective emblem by long time collaborator Beci Orpin.
The bespoke wines and labels are Lisa Gorman’s first foray into food and beverage, and have been developed in conjunction with Handpicked winemaker, Peter Dillon, to reflect the fun and bold style of Gorman and its Victorian provenance. Both labels feature a signature Gorman oatmeal toned background with bold black and pink print. The 2018
Handpicked x Gorman Pinot Noir was handpicked and hand plunged, and matured for 11 months in a mixture of new and old French oak. It has juicy and pretty fruit flavours, reflecting a signature Mornington style. The fresh and full-flavoured 2018 Handpicked x Gorman Chardonnay was handpicked, whole bunch pressed and wild fermented. The wine was aged on lees for 11 months. Both wines were specially made for those who love to celebrate what’s great about Victoria and pair well with a Gorman smock dress or pantsuit.
“We love building relationships with like-minded businesses and exploring the connections between wine and the creative process. Most of our collaborations happen organically and we’ve been working with both with Heide Museum and Gorman for a number of years,” says Handpicked Wines Marketing Manager, Imogen Hayes. “The wine always comes first, and we are excited to add two new Mornington Peninsula wines with incredible quality yet an accessible price point for the region. There was also an undeniable synergy between Gorman and Handpicked that we’re so pleased to bring to life through this new project.”
The limited edition wine is available for purchase at Handpicked Wines’ urban cellar door in Chippendale or online at handpickedwines.com.au.
GAME OF THRONES SINGLE MALT SCOTCH WHISKY
The wait is over. As we go through the highly-anticipated last season of Game of Thrones, we can raise a glass to the Game of Thrones Single Malt Scotch Whisky Collection. To celebrate the eighth and final season of the critically-acclaimed TV series, Game of Thrones, DIAGEO and HBO have released a limited-edition collection of Single Malt Scotch Whiskies. The collection features seven Scotch whiskies paired with six of the iconic Houses of Westeros, as well as the Night’s Watch, giving fans an authentic taste of the Seven Kingdoms.
Diageo’s unparalleled diverse range of distilleries in Scotland, much like in Westeros, each have their own unique characteristics and produce a distinctive whisky representative of its local terroir. These similarities were the inspiration behind the collection, drawing an authentic storyline between each House and single malt pairing. Whether you want to collect them all or represent your chosen House, be sure to pick up a bottle before they leave the realm.
“We’re excited that the Game of Thrones Single Malt Scotch Whisky Collection will be hitting shelves in more countries around the world. We are always trying to find fun and interesting ways to introduce our Scotch portfolio and what better way than partnering with Game of Thrones, one of the most successful TV series ever created. We are thrilled to be celebrating the final season of the show by toasting with whiskies that authentically pay homage to some of the greatest characters and houses,” said Pedro Mendonca, Global Reserve Marketing & Malts Director.
If you’re looking for inspiration on which whiskies to collect, there is no shortage of details behind each iconic pairing. For example, Game of Thrones House Targaryen – Cardhu Gold Reserve is fueled by the same fiery spirit of the fierce female leadership of Daenerys Targaryen, celebrating legendary women and their unwavering perseverance. The Cardhu Distillery was pioneered by Helen Cumming and her daughter-in- law Elizabeth during the 1800s, a time when the whisky industry was almost entirely male-dominated.
Meanwhile, royal lineage drives the iconic pairing for Game of Thrones House Baratheon – Royal Lochnagar 12 Year Old. Similar to Robert Baratheon ruling the Seven Kingdoms upon the Iron Throne, Royal Lochnagar was deemed a whisky worthy of a royal family as it was granted a Royal Warrant after Queen Victoria and Prince Albert visited the distillery in 1848.
Be sure to have one of the unparalleled Game of Thrones single malt whiskies on hand to toast to the final season. Collect all seven whiskies while supplies last and be sure to celebrate the final season responsibly. The Game of Thrones Single Malt Scotch Whisky Collection joins White Walker by Johnnie Walker, another limited-edition whisky in celebration of the hit TV series. White Walker by Johnnie Walker is inspired by the most enigmatic and feared characters on Game of Thrones – the White Walkers – and is available for $64.99 for 700ml (ABV 41.7%) while supplies last.
