Thanks to the rise of British period dramas such as Downton Abbey, the English Rose makeup look has been revived with a modern touch. Burberry have released their latest Spring/Summer 2014 collection, designed to give you that delicate lady-like look without having to don a rib-crushing corset and hoop skirt.
The campaign is fronted by top British models Jourdan Dunn and Edie Campbell, and was created by Burberry Makeup Artistic Consultant Wendy Rowe under the creative direction of Burberry Chief Creative Officer Christopher Bailey.
The makeup collection is based on a palette of sage green, dusty pink and pale yellow. The pastel colours can be worked seamlessly into your skin, with rose shades smudged into eyelids, nude lips and bare lashes, complemented by an array of luminescent pastel nail shades inspired by the Spring/Summer 2014 ready-to-wear and accessories collection.
Echoing the many textures present in the new season garments and accessories, the makeup is presented in a variety of textures, powdery soft palettes, crystalline lip glosses and smudgy eye pencils.
Here are some tips from Burberry on how you can channel the two hottest looks of the season straight from the runway, Rose Pink Look and Sage Green Looks.
ROSE PINK LOOK
SKIN
Use Sheer Concealer to highlight the forehead, nose, Cupid’s bow and chin. Use rose-toned shades under the eyes to diminish dark circles and even the complexion.
Mix Fresh Glow Fluid in Golden Radiance No.02 with Sheer Foundation before applying, to create glowing skin with a subtle, sun-kissed feel. Begin application at the centre of the face, blending the foundation outwards for an effortless, natural look.
Finish with a light dusting of Sheer Powder over the T-zone to ensure even, shine-free skin for the whole day.
Contour cheekbones with Light Glow in Earthy Blush No.07. Bring healthy colour to the cheeks with Light Glow in Peony Blush No.04.
EYES
To create a soft, petal-like effect around the eyes, use Sheer Eye Shadow in Tea Rose No.11 as a light colourwash over lids. Then take the brightest shade from the Complete Eye Palette Rose Pink No.10 along the upper and lower lash line – blending outwards to a fade – and more intensely along the outer socket line.
For a more defined look, apply Eye Definer in Midnight Black No.01 to the outer half of the upper lash line, in between lashes.
Apply Effortless Mascara in Midnight Black No.01 to the top and bottom lashes, starting at the root of the lashes.
LIPS
Line the mouth with Lip Definer in Rosewood No.07. Follow with Lip Mist in Trench Kiss No.216 on the lips, pressing in with fingertips for a more natural finish.
NAILS
Apply one coat of Nail Protect Base & Top Coat followed by two coats of Nail Polish in Dusky Mauve No.405, allowing a little drying time in between coats. Apply a final coat of Nail Protect Base & Top Coat before resting the customer’s hands on a towel to allow nails to dry.
SAGE GREEN LOOK
SKIN

EYES
Take the Complete Eye Palette in Sage Green No.15 and apply a wash of the lightest shade all over the eyelid, blending up to the socket. Blend the palest green shade into the inner corner of the eye, fading into the start of the brow for a subtle hint of colour along the arch. Then carry on along the lower lash line for subtle effect. Intensify the very inner corner, upper and lower lash line and outer eye socket with the deepest green shade, blending outwards for a seamless gradation of colour. Brighten the inner corners of the eye with the pale gold shade.
Apply Effortless Mascara in Midnight Brown No.02 to the top and bottom lashes, starting at the root of the lashes.
LIPS
Line the mouth with Lip Definer in Rosewood No.07. Follow with Lip Mist in Pink Heather No.210 on the lips, pressing in with fingertips for a more natural finish.
NAILS
Apply one coat of Nail Protect Base & Top Coat followed by two coats of Nail Polish in Mink No.105, allowing a little drying time in between coats. Apply a final coat of Nail Protect Base & Top Coat before resting the customer’s hands on a towel to allow nails to dry.
