D.O.C Gastronomia is marking its 20th anniversary with a grand reopening of its flagship location on Lygon Street, now rebranded as D.O.C Osteria. Known for showcasing the heart and soul of Italian hospitality, the venue’s transformation reflects a fresh chapter in its storied history. Previously D.O.C Espresso, the new osteria will debut on October 24th at 5 PM, offering a refined yet accessible dining experience. The renovation honors D.O.C’s Carlton roots and the cultural significance of Lygon Street, solidifying their place in Melbourne’s Italian dining scene.

The transformation goes beyond a simple facelift, turning what was once an all-day diner into an authentic lunch and dinner osteria. The adjoining D.O.C Delicatessen & Espresso will evolve into a specialty grocer, paninoteca, and café, with a recent small expansion setting the stage for further growth. The renovation of the kitchen has been central to this project, enabling a broader menu that includes fresh pasta, antipasti, and secondi dishes. D.O.C’s iconic outdoor dining area has also received a major upgrade, enhancing its connection to Lygon Street’s vibrant footpath culture.

Michael Costanzo, Director of D.O.C, expressed the significance of this renovation, stating, “It’s time to give back to the street that has given us so much. This project showcases our commitment to the continuity of Lygon Street’s iconic footpath dining scene and proudly celebrates our bold and unapologetic Italian heritage.” The redesign draws inspiration from Northern Italian ristorantes, with bold burgundy tones, creamy neutrals, and marble tables creating an inviting atmosphere for up to 80 guests, indoors and out.

D.O.C Osteria’s new menu highlights classic Italian flavors with a contemporary twist, featuring signature dishes like focaccia with nduja and green olive butter, and a hearty pipe rigate with ragù Senese. For a sweet finish, the D.O.C Paradiso, a playful take on an Italian childhood favorite, will be a must-try. As they look ahead to 2025, D.O.C plans to return to Italy for ingredient development, bringing the best of Italy’s modern culinary scene back to Melbourne.

D.O.C Osteria will be open from 12 PM Monday through Sunday and is located at 326 Lygon St, Carlton. For more information click here
