With the party season well and truly upon us, there will no doubt be a few of us looking and feeling a little worse for wear after the Christmas and new year period. This means there is no better time than to be looking at a way to cleanse your body and reset it for the new year.

I’ve always wanted to try a juice cleanse but as someone who is constantly eating, I had my reservations. Would I be hungry? Would it make me feel sick? What would happen to my body? With my new year’s resolution to be more conscious of my health, I decided to head into Pressed Juices to try one of their much hyped cleanses and see if I could kick start my health kick before the new year.

When you are looking to try a cleanse at Pressed Juices, you will need to talk with one of their in-store nutritionists to ensure that a cleanse is the right option for you. If you are given the go-ahead to proceed, they will help you select the right juices for you.

I caught up with Pressed Juices Nutritionist Natasha Jordan who answered some of the frequently asked questions about juice cleanses I had.

What are the benefits of doing a cleanse?

Doing a juice cleanse can provide benefits to your health on many levels. A juice cleanse can help subdue any bad eating habits and cravings whilst giving your digestive system a break whilst still providing your body with a highly bioavailable stream of nutrients. This super dose of nutrients helps strengthen your body on a cellular level, it helps support systemic cellular function which involves supporting processes which support detoxification. To put it simply its a great way for your body to rest, repair and renew. Most people report feelings of improved energy, clearer skin and clearer mind.

There are an increasing number of cleanses available on the market, what makes the Pressed Juices cleanse the best option?

The Pressed Juices cleanses and juices are designed and developed by a large team of nutritionists, a huge amount of care is taken to ensure each juice is unique, delicious and highly nutritious. We also offer you extensive support throughout your cleanse if needed with each nutritionist being readily available in each store.

3. Are there any risks to doing a cleanse?

At certain times in your life it is not recommended to do a cleanse. Our cleanses are not recommended for people on certain medications or people with some health conditions and lifestyles. Each individual should discuss whether a cleanse is appropriate for them with a Pressed Juices nutritionist or their health professional.

4. How often should you be doing a cleanse?

Our cleanses are recommended every 3 – 6 months depending on your lifestyle.

I opted for predominantly vegetable based juices, which is a great option if you want to keep the fruit sugars to a minimum. You are encouraged to drink lots of water with your cleanse, but will not be able to consume any food during the cleanse to see maximum results.

So my verdict? I can assure you, you definitely won’t be hungry when doing your cleanse. You are given 8 juices per day which means you are pretty much drinking a juice every hour. The 8 juices are equivalent to 6 kilos of fruit and veggies, so your body will definitely thank you for it! I initially felt a little sluggish in the afternoon on day one, but pushing through, I didn’t find I was tired again throughout the rest of the cleanse. If anything, I found I had more energy. My skin definitely felt clearer in the days proceeding the cleanse and I felt like my body was processing food a lot better.

So would I recommend a juice cleanse? Definitely. I personally wouldn’t look at a juice cleanse as a way to lose weight (although that could be a nice side effect!), but rather, as a way to give your body a break from having to continuously having to process food. Particularly if you have a diet high in meat and processed foods, it is important to give your body a rest. If you’ve had a particularly overindulgent period, such a Christmas or new year, a juice cleanse is a great way to really increase the level of nutrients in your body.
