Fashion and travel blogger Jasmin Howell’s blog Friend In Fashion has taken her to all corners of the globe. From the sunny islands of Greece, to the coat of Rio De Janerio and the bustling streets of New York City, Jasmin has seen it all. Feeling inspired by her travels and the beautiful world around us, she decided to team up with Bahagia Store to create her own jewellery collection By Jasmin. Couturing caught up with the lovely Jasmin to find out more about her collaboration and what exciting things she has planned for the future.
LISA TEH (LT): Congratulations on the launch of your new jewellery collection #ByJasmin. How did the collaboration with Bahagia Jewellery come about?
JASMIN HOWELL (JH): Thank you! It has been a process that kicked off while I was overseas exploring the beautiful Croatian Islands. I was experiencing such beautiful surroundings, and enjoy the most picture perfect European summer, I was constantly pinching myself.
I wanted to develop a few pieces of jewellery that captured my feelings at the time, and that were constant reminders of the big beautiful world that surrounds us.
I reached out to my good friend, and Bahagia store owner, Camila to see how we could make this dream a reality, and that’s how the BY Jasmin X Bahagia Stores collaboration started.
LT: Can you tell us about the inspiration behind the collection?
JH: The collection is inspired by my travels, and eternally wanderlusting state of mind. I definitely have the travel bug, so a collection which represents my love of exploration was a must.
LT: Can you explain the design process and how it went from ideas and concepts to the finished pieces?
This was my first design process, and there was so much more involved that I had originally thought. There is so much you need to think about, to turn your idea into reality, but luckily, I had Camila who is an accomplished jewellery designer in her own right, helping me each step of the way. Without her, the process would have been much more difficult – we made a great team.
LT: What are you must-have pieces from the collection?
JH: The first collection is relatively small, consisting of pieces that I really wanted to wear myself – so I really love all of the pieces – but if I had to pick just one, it would have to be the travel rings. They are perfectly versatile, I love stacking them, and are constant reminders of some of my favourite destinations.
LT: What tips do you have for styling fine jewellery?
JH: I really like the delicate nature of fine jewellery – so I really love pieces worn on their own. The collection has been designed to layer though – which is another beautiful look you can create with fine jewellery. I like to wear my gold and silver wanderlust chains together. You spend a lot of time travelling the world but what do you miss most about home when you are away? It has to be the known and familiar – knowing where my favourite boutique or café is a great feeling, but the unknown and undiscovered is the part of travel that I love the most.
LT: You’ve been to so many different places around the world, what have been some of your most memorable experiences?
Shopping for Chanel at Rue Cambon, midnight swims in the Mediterranean, eating up a storm from hawker to hawker throughout Asia, setting up my apartment in New York, and living the Soho Lifestyle.
LT: What exciting plans do you have coming up this year?
JH: I had an amazing trip to LA to kick off the year, where I was lucky enough to rub shoulders with some amazing people, I’m set to return to Bali in the next few weeks, and hopefully hit the snow abroad later in the year.
