Schweppes is bringing a twist to the Birdcage during Melbourne Cup Carnival, with a unique marquee that will provide an experience reminiscent of the Melbourne’s best bars and restaurants.
The 2013 Melbourne Cup Carnival will for the first time see Schweppes enter the Birdcage and transform the Marquee landscape with the highly anticipated launch of the company’s new piece of racing real estate, Bar Schweppes by Broadsheet. Unlike other marquees, Schweppes want guests to experience the best of Melbourne’s food scene by bringing together some of Melbourne’s best bartenders from the city’s most prominent bars, including Black Pearl, The Beaufort, Woods of Windsor and Seamstress– that will be designing and mixing cocktails each race day.
The feature cocktails will include; Up and At ‘Em from Black Pearl, Venezuelan Thunder from The Beaufort, Winner Winner from Bar Ampere, Pimms Rangoon from Seamstress with the signature cocktail of the Melbourne Cup Carnival, the Schweppes Flemington Fling, available to Bar Schweppes guests each race day.
Not to be outdone on the cocktails, Schweppes have had some of Melbourne’s top restaurant chefs collaborate to design a menu that is distinctively Melbourne, featuring items by Ben Cooper of Chin Chin, Adrian Li of Saigon Sally, Scott Pickett of Saint Crispin and The Estelle and William Balleau of Chingnon.
The bar itself will also encapsulate the look and feel of Melbourne’s renowned cocktail bar and restaurant culture, with the architecture featuring bespoke design features including clean white tiling, industrial style fittings and hardwood, all made by local Melbourne suppliers.
Ben Goss, Schweppes Australia Marketing manager says “we’re excited to bring what could be a corner of Flinders Lane into the Birdcage for a uniquely Melbourne experience. Creative drinking will be at the heart of what’s on offer with the city’s best bartenders, architects, chefs and musicians collaborating to create the ultimate Melbourne Bar. We’re confident Bar Schweppes will be as good as any bar in Melbourne”, said Ben Goss, Schweppes Australia Marketing Manager.
