The Shark FlexStyle Air Styling and Drying System has taken the world of hair care by storm with its promise of effortless styling and drying in one. As someone with long and thick hair, I was particularly intrigued by its claims. Would it live it to the hype and deliver salon-worthy results?

What’s in the box?

The FlexStyle Air Styler comes in a stylish black box that features the dryer itself along with six attachments – a hair diffuser, concentrator, Left and right curler, straightening brush and roller brush.

Ease of Use

The FlexStyle Air system lives up to its reputation as being user-friendly. Its lightweight design and ergonomic handle make it comfortable to hold for extended periods. The included attachments, including a concentrator and diffuser, snap on and off effortlessly, and the control buttons are intuitively placed. The flow and temperature gauges are simple to use, allowing you to adjust temperature and airflow settings with precision. I loved twisting head to allow for easy use to dry hair before styling. The 90 degree head provided me with the flexibility to use around my hair to dry. Overall, it’s a breeze to use for both beginners and experienced stylists.

Application to Long and Thick Hair

I have long, thick hair that can be a challenge to style and dry efficiently. The FlexStyle Air system, however, did an admirable job. The powerful motor and adjustable heat settings make quick work of drying even the thickest hair, and the styling attachments give excellent control. The system’s unique combination of air and heat provides a gentle yet effective approach to styling, which is crucial for preventing damage, especially for longer, thicker hair. The high powered airshot and consistent temperature control helps to minimise heat damage which can be a danger when using other hair care appliances.

The Auto-wrap curler worked well with my long and thick air and I was surprised that it was able to keep the air tensioned around the curler to create the perfect curl.

Hair is ~75% wet for maximum effectiveness

Top 5 Tricks for Styling with FlexStyle Air

Prep and Protect: Always apply a heat protectant spray before using the FlexStyle Air system to shield your hair from excessive heat damage.

For Styling – don’t have dry hair: For more precise styling make sure your hair is 75% dry to allow for the heat to style your hair properly and maintain the style

Cool Shot: The cool shot button is your best friend. Use it to set your style in place and add shine to your hair. After using heat to style, finish with a blast of cool air to seal the cuticle.

Concentrator Nozzle: When dealing with stubborn hair, attach the concentrator nozzle. This attachment focuses the airflow and heat for more controlled, targeted styling.

Experiment with Attachments: The FlexStyle Air Styling and Drying system comes with different attachments for a reason. Experiment with the diffuser for voluminous curls, and the straightening brush for sleek, smooth styles. You’ll be amazed at the versatility. I loved using the paddle brush to straighten my hair – drying and styling at the same time!

Is it worth it?

The FlexStyle Air Styling and Drying System lives up to its promises of ease of use and the styling attachments help you to create salon worthy styles at home.
