Windsor’s bar and restaurant playground along High Street has added Italian flair with Tipico now open for service. Joining the ever-growing precinct of dining destinations, Tipico will bring classic Italian flavours made with Australian ingredients in a modern setting.
With da Como and Scalisi providing authentic Italian hospitality front of house, the kitchen is home to head chef Domenico De Marco who will draw on his classical European training and Australian experience working under Luke Mangan and Neil Perry, to create memorable, Italian dishes made with local Melbourne produce.
Allowing guests to drop in for aperitivo, or linger longer for a meal, the menu is perfectly varied to suit any occasion, with a highlight the Italian twist on an Australian favourite, fish and chips (Polenta and Sardine – fried sardines and polenta chips),predicted to be popular amongst diners. Further menu highlights include:
- Kingfish Crudo – raw kingfish, orange dressing, pink pepper
- Fegatini di pollo – chicken liver pate served with polenta bread
- Cotoletta – crumbed veal cutlet with pickled salad
- Cavatelli – with San Marzano tomatoes with ricotta salata
- Funghi & speck – pizza with forest mushroom, speck, thyme, brie
At the bar, the wine list has been handpicked by da Como and Scalisi and shines the spotlight on Italian and Victorian wines only, while the small cocktail list, designed by bar manager Enrico Visentini in collaboration with Nathan Beasley from Black Pearl, features Italian classics such as Campari and Sodaand Aperol Spritz.
Imbuing a sophisticated, yet seductive vibe that Italians bring so well, expect to see a bold terrazzo bar, dark olive tones, concrete and Italian leather, in a restaurant space designed by Stephanie Korolija of Studio Ole.
