Kookai showcased their 2018 Autumn/Winter collection with a beautiful Autumnal runway, inspired by the streets and style of Paris. The L’Hiver 18 La Parisienne collection features tones of red, navy and green with playful prints and checks, and were showcased on the runway by Victoria’s Secret model Kelly Gale, the face of the collection.
We chatted with the team from MECCA MAX who prepared the beauty direction, and the team at ELEVEN Australia who created the hair styling and direction.

What are the beauty looks you’ve created tonight and what is the inspiration behind the looks?
We took inspiration from Kookai’s gorgeous new Autumn/Winter Collection and wanted the MECCA MAX makeup looks to compliment their runway collection.
In particular, we took a contemporary twist on the classic smokey eye by using warm burgundy hues to really make the models’ eye colours pop.
We updated this with a glossy finish using cream eyeshadows. The skin was kept fresh with a peachy blush, soft contouring and beautiful glossy highlights.
What are the key products you’ve used to create the look for the show?
MECCA MAX’s Double Vision Eye Colour in Tuscan Sun and Wine Time were the real heroes of this eye look! The MECCA MAX Triple Threat Face Shaper Cream created a soft, diffused glow on the skin, sculpting and looking beautiful on the runway. MECCA MAX Chic Cheek Blush Powder in Gold Glow provided just the right flush of peach on the apples of the cheeks.
What are the key colours we’ll be seeing this A/W?
Warm tones on the cheeks and eyes will be coming through this A/W, think autumn leaves and that beautiful auburn palette. Creamy textures are also making a big comeback, as well as cream blushes, bronzers, highlighters and shadows to give skin that plump, fresh and hydrated glow.

ELEVEN HAIR CARE – Joey Scandizzo, Creative Director
The KOOKAI AW18 La Parisienne collection is inspired by French chic style. What styles have you created for the runway and how does this integrate with the fashions on the runway?
Both looks were created by the Joey Scandizzo team using ELEVEN Australia.
LOOK 1 was a French-girl wave. Relaxed waves with a slight bend through the front and straighter ends. The hair was loaded with ELEVEN Australia I WANT BODY Texture Spray and SEA SALT Texture Spray to give the look some grit, texture and light weight body.
LOOK 2 was a low pony with a French twist at the back. We rolled in two twists at the back to create a modern day Parisienne look. We wanted it to look like the girls had done it themselves before walking the streets of Paris. The looks created for the show were all loose and undone, there’s nothing polished about them, they’re raw and organic looks with movement through them.
What are the key products you’ve used to create the looks for the show?
First we prepped the hair ELEVEN Australia SEA SALT Texture Spray and I WANT BODY Volume Spray, to create a base of grit and texture. This combination also helps take away any fluffiness and give the hair that day two or three texture.
Then after styling we finished with a combination of the ELEVEN Australia FRIZZ CONTROL Shaping Cream and the SMOOTH & SHINE Anti-Frizz Serum.
What are some of the key hair trends you see for this A/W?
Natural, undone texture is still going to be big this season but we’re also seeing a lot of up styles too. Top knots, low buns and ponytails were all lover the recent runways. These work really well the day after a shampoo when your hair has a bit of natural grit but you can fast track the process with the right products. I recommend prepping with I WANT BODY Volume Texture Spray or DRY POWDER Volume paste.
Tips and tricks to recreate the hair looks and key trends used on the runway for Kookai ?
Don’t think too much or try too hard. These looks were meant to look lived-in, not too done or perfect. It’s also important to allow your tonged curls to cool before combing them out. I like to use a wide tooth comb to break curls up for a more relaxed finish.
