lululemon joins forces once again with Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London’s renowned MA Fashion Course to introduce a limited-edition print collection that merges function and fashion.
This second collaboration collection features six prints crafted by lululemon’s design team using artwork created by CSM’s MA Fashion students. Inspired by a trip to Kyoto where they met with local artisans and designers in residence, lululemon’s design team was moved by the artists’ focus and dedication to perfecting a single technique or style, some of which had been passed down through families for generations. The design team shared this experience to brief in the “Art of Motion” to the students, encouraging them to discover and explore their own inspirations and interpretations of the concept.
Six final pieces of student artwork were selected by lululemon’s design team and feature various mediums and techniques, from layering watercolour and calligraphy on acetate to mimic the aesthetic of a Korean prayer book, to a special gloss paint developed to evoke the look of glaze, ink and screen-printing found on Japanese ceramics and the art of Shibui. Each piece of artwork was digitized by lululemon’s design team to create pattern pieces in proportion to select styles. The patterns were body-mapped to flatter natural physical contours and emphasize the illusion of movement for each print.
The prints are applied to Nulux, lululemon’s buttery-smooth fabric offering sweat-wicking, quick-drying properties and lightweight compression for a next-to-nothing feeling, and engineered in three classic lululemon styles – the Speed Wunder Tight ($149 AUD), Wunder Under ($149 AUD) and Energy Bra ($59 AUD).
The lululemon x Central Saint Martins print collection will be available for a limited time starting mid-March at lululemon.com.au and at select stores across Australia and New Zealand.
