Highpoint Shopping Centre has created a new outdoor retail and casual dining precinct in Melbourne’s West, taking inspiration from food truck parks and capitalising on the interest in pop-up stores and temporary retail spaces. Three shipping containers will form Highpoint’s IN:TRANSIT space, shaping a dynamic and non-permanent retail offer for shoppers to enjoy.
Open to the public from this week, the first tenants of IN:TRANSIT will be Footscray’s favourite barbeque and beer garden Up In Smoke, Melbourne-made clothing label Kenny Parker and artisan dessert connoisseur Dex2rose. Located outside of the Centre’s main entrance via Rosamond Road, Highpoint’s IN:TRANSIT precinct has been designed as a visit-and-stay space for families and friends. Whether it’s outdoor dining or a relaxed atmosphere that appeals, IN:TRANSIT will be a space for shoppers to rest and rejuvenate, while having the opportunity to enjoy a meal and shop at retailers that are unique to the West and at Highpoint for a limited-time-only, to offer more choices than ever for customers.
As the name suggests, the nature of IN:TRANSIT will see multiple retailers call the shipping containers home over the next five years – with an adaptable, trend-driven retail precinct for shoppers and local residents. Not only will this approach allow the precinct to showcase the latest emerging products and brands but it will expand Highpoint’s offering for customers.

Highpoint is helping two of its inaugural pop-up brands to connect with customers for the first time with a physical place to go; IN:TRANSIT will create Kenny Parker’s first bricks and mortar store and Up In Smoke’s first pop-up kitchen.
“Highpoint Shopping Centre is delighted to embrace the trend of temporary and ‘pop-up’ stores, creating a buzz by introducing a mix of creative and cult short-term retailers. We are thrilled to introduce Up In Smoke, Kenny Parker and Dex2rose to the Centre as our first IN:TRANSIT tenants. We look forward to seeing the precinct develop and are committed to providing the most exciting retail experiences for shoppers,” says Highpoint Shopping Centre’s Centre Manager, Ryan Ling
Up In Smoke was conceived in early 2016 by 8bit co-owners Shayne McCallum and Alan Sam, who can thank their ‘smoking goods’ menu for the barbeque and beer garden’s popularity amongst Melbourne foodies. Sibling duo Trent and Brooke Hogan are the founders of Kenny Parker, an authentic streetwear brand that uses 100 per cent Australian organic cotton to create its men’s, women’s and unisex garments. Normally based in Melbourne’s CBD, Dex2rose is a sweet tooth’s haven – specialising in nitrogen-frozen dessert inventions including its iconic
Dragon’s Breath bubble cup.
