When it comes to superfoods, you don’t often think of broth, but Melissa Morphet, founder of Be Wellbeing Broth has set out to change that.
Congratulations on the launch of Be Wellbeing Broth! What inspired the creation of your brand?
The inspiration to launch Be Wellbeing Broth was 100% my health. After working in the corporate industry in Australia and United States for over 15 years, my time-poor lifestyle restricted time for homemade, healthy cooking and led me to cut corners.
After being diagnosed with gut and inflammation challenges, I was introduced to the wellbeing properties of bone broth and how it can significantly heal the gut and improve wellness. However at the time, the struggle was finding the time to slow cook over several days whilst dealing with all the usual personal and professional urgencies of day-to-day life! and hence, Be Wellbeing Broth was born. A nourishing broth drink in a convenient format which can be consumed within minutes. I am a passionate advocate for bone broth – passing on the wisdom to my friends and family and now even further. It’s not simply for addressing health issues, but for fostering everyday healthy living. An easy, everyday addition to help us all stay well in body, mind and soul.
What are the top 3 benefits of broth everyone should know about?
There are countless benefits of bone broth. If I were to name just three, firstly it contains tremendous properties to help heal a leaky gut! The gelatin in the broth protects and heals the mucosal lining of the digestive tract and helps aid in the digestion of nutrients.
It reduces joint pain and inflammation:
The glucosamine in broth can stimulate the growth of new collagen, repair damaged joints and reduce pain and inflammation.
It supports the Paleo Diet:
Broths are extraordinarily rich in protein. A great supporter of the Paleo diet – a filling dairy-free and gluten-free snack that comes in a variety of flavours, even catering to vegetarians with the vegetable broth, infused with beetroot.
What were the challenges trying to launch Be Wellbeing Broth?
1. The manufacturing process – our bone broth takes up to 18 hours to make so making this to perfection in volume isnt easy. We had to make sure we had a set up that would work vigorously around the clock.
2. Educating the Australian community that bone broth is different than stock – many still believe broth is the same as stock but it’s so different. Bone broth is cooked for a longer period of time and contains a high nutritional value. Stock is usually found on supermarket shelves in tetrapacks with added preservatives for longer life. You cannot consume stock straight from the container, wheres broth you can drink straight.
3. Educating the Australia community on why you should “drink” bone broth not just “cook” with it – drinking bone broth is one of the most soothing, energizing, nutritional things that I consume in my diet today. Drinking broth is as common to me as drinking a morning cup of coffee or tea. However to many, broth lives in the kitchen to cook with. That is why we introduced Be Wellbeing Broth that was infused with premium tasty spices so people could enjoy sipping the mouth-watering mug of broth on-the-go.
Gut health is such an important topic, not many people know enough about. Why do you believe gut health is so important?
I have learnt first hand that gut health is one of the most important elements of your health to nurture. It can cause so many illnesses if its not balanced and healthy – from cold & flu and acne to inflammation and emotional disorders. 70% of the immune system is located in your gut. So if you cant seem to get on top of your flu or other nasty bugs, then focusing on balancing your digestive system is the key to building up your body’s resistance.
What’s your favourite way to use Be Wellbeing Broth?’
To me it has primarily been a drink – whether that be a warm mug of goodness that I enjoy before work or as an afternoon pick me up around 3pm or of late if I am travelling or been to the gym. It is so invigorating and soothing but it fills me up and I know I am being filled with goodness vs. a quick carb fix. My husband however loves to consume Be Broth as a meal – he simply grabs his favourite Be Broth flavour from the fridge, pours it into a saucepan, adds his favourite veggies and noodles and within a few minutes he has a satisfying (and healthy!) lunch or dinner.
