Run Melbourne presented by lululemon announced its 2017 event ambassadors with a special Mindful Morning launch event at Greenfields, Albert Park. The Mindful Morning launch event consisted of a ‘yoga for runners’ session, a meditation and a nutritious breakfast, overlooking one of Melbourne’s most scenic and much loved running tracks, before an introduction to the ambassadors for this year’s event.
The ambassadors span all realms of health and fitness with a Paralympian, an elite endurance runner, a running technique coach, an active ‘funtrepreneur’ and a ‘functional fitness’ leader from F45. The ambassador announcement celebrates Run Melbourne and lululemon’s new partnership, the iconic event’s 10 year anniversary and the appointment of these five ambassadors. Together, these inspiring and sporting Melburnians will run this city, raise funds and awareness for their chosen charities, and encourage many others to join them.
Leading the ambassadors is multiple World Record holder and Paralympic gold medallist, Kelly Cartwright. Kelly lost her leg to cancer at the early age of 15, conquered her challenges and became one of Australia’s most phenomenal athletes.
Joining Kelly on race weekend will be ultra-marathon runner Samantha Gash (who recently completed a 3254km, 77 day run across India), elite running coach Paul Mackinnon, more recent running lover and founder of cult tea brand Matcha Maiden, Sarah Holloway, and owner of six F45 studios, Michael Ramsey (F45 Training is a team-based, functional training facility and Australia’s fastest growing franchise).
“These five inspiring Melburnians have been chosen as ambassadors for this year’s event, because they couldn’t be a more perfect fit – they each have very different running stories and we are tremendously excited to have them on board,” said Lisa Holmes, CEO of Sole Motive, which has been powering Run Melbourne since 2008.
“2017 is a major milestone for the event in more ways than one – we are celebrating the event’s historic tenth year, our Australian-first partnership with technical apparel company lululemon and our amazing ambassadors that are set to encourage participants to stay active this winter,” continued Lisa Holmes.
Over the past 10 years, Run Melbourne has raised over $12 million for more than 400 charities and this year’s target is a whopping $2 million. Participants can raise funds and support charities close to their hearts via the fundraising platform, Everyday Hero.
Run Melbourne presented by lululemon will take place on Sunday 30 July and is expected to attract 20,000 participants across three events: a Half-Marathon, a 10km run and a 5km run.
