Living in Australia, the majority of us have grown accustomed to, if not rather fond of, an unpredictable climate. We’re not talking basics, necessarily, but somewhat trend driven pieces that can be dressed up, pared back, and worked into your preexisting wardrobe. Herein lies Australian design powerhouse Country Road’s greatest strength.
A sense of ease is pivotal for the new season- washed Japanese fabrics, soft lace shifts, floaty blouses and lightweight knits demonstrate Country Road’s knack for effortless daywear solutions. That sense of ease and versatility lies at the core of the entire collection, with Creative Director Sophie Holt telling us that having the ability to both layer and pair back are intrinsic to the range. “It starts to get cold very quickly but I like that change,” she says. “You can play with your style and start layering and adding new textures.”
Blouses and shirts offer Victorian necklines with shirring and pintucking finishes that feel beautifully feminine, while shawl cardigans and blanket capes are made to wear all weekend long. “There’s a subtle nod to the late sixties and early seventies iconic fashion moments with cape silhouettes, in everything from soft knits to more structured woollen coats,” says Sophie.
Textures add points of difference to otherwise classic cuts, with transeasonal denim featuring heavily while A line mini skirts and shift dresses take shape in soft suedes. Texture isn’t limited to clothing, Sophie tells us, as Country Road’s latest accessories are just as strong as their apparel. “Accessories have a sixties and seventies influence with the use of suede across many styles, from mini and large shoulder bags with tassel details, to clogs and moccasins. The shoe of the season is a really stylish knee-high tan leather boot, made to wear with miniskirts, and fashion girls will be finishing their looks with a navy bandana tied at the neck.”
