Last week, David Jones launched their 2016 Spring/Summer collections and gave us a glimpse of the beauty and fashion that is in store for us next season. shu uemura International chief make-up artist, Mr. Yuji Asano created two distinctive looks for the models, one focussing on “young and modern fresh-faced beauty” and the other a more sultry ‘70s vibe. We show you exactly what went behind each of the beautiful looks.
Look 1: Highlights the beauty of a natural orange lip and cheek combo and luminous glowing skin.
Face: To achieve the “fresh-faced” look, start by applying a layer of Tsuya Skin UV underbase to help blur any enlarged pores and fine lines and give the skin a youthful glow. Following, prime the face with Glow Creator Glow Boosting Cream to create a luminous and translucent base.
Asano uses a special technique where cheek colour is applied before foundation to give the illusion of natural colour coming through. A key product from the show was the Haute Street Tinted Gelato in #Graffiti Orange. Press this gently onto the cheeks with the Lightbulb Sponge. Next, use the sponge to apply the Illuminating Lightbulb Foundation and cover up any dark circles, scarring or redness with the Point Cealer. You will notice the slight orange tint of the Tinted Gelato on the cheeks that is very subtle, yet adds a glow to the face.
Eyes: The eyes incorporate the use of soft-coloured shadows – a very minimal look. Use the peachy-orange shades from the Haute Street Warm and Vibrant Palette on the lids for an understated pop of colour. Next, curl the lashes using shu uemura’s popular Eyelash Curler to lift the eyes and generously coat the lashes with the Tokyo Lash Mascara in Black. For a bit more definition apply the Smokey Layers Lash.
To achieve a natural brow look, fill in any sparse areas with the Brow:Ink by creating tiny strokes to mimic the appearance of hairs. Follow with the Hard Formula Brow Pencil to further define the brows.
Lips: Coat the lips with Gloss Unlimited in Modular Pink for a natural peachy-pink lip.
Look 2: Strong brow, a sultry smoky eye and radiant, glowy skin
Face: This second look is not as dewy as the first, but still focuses on radiance. Start by applying the Illuminating Lightbulb Foundation on the face with the Lightbulb Sponge. Then, dab Tint in Gelato in BG01 Puffy Chocolate over the cheeks for a neutral pinky-beige flush on the cheeks.
Eyes: For the strong and sultry smoky eye, start by using the Haute Street Warm and Vibrant Palette. Sweep the darkest shade on the lid without bringing the colour too high up onto the crease. Then blend out the edges with the warm orange shade to achieve a seamless finish. Using the Haute Street ME Brown Pencil, line the top and bottom lash line and then smoke out the colour. Follow with the Haute Street Drawing Pencil in Black; line the upper and lower waterline for extra definition.
Next, curl the lashes using shu uemura’s Eyelash Curler to lift the eyes and generously coat the lashes with the Tokyo Lash Mascara in Black. Finally, add the Farfallina lash for a dramatic flair.
The brows are stronger and more defined in this look. Using the Brow:Ink in Ash Brown, create tiny strokes to mimic the appearance of hairs and follow with the Hard Formula Brow Pencil for further definition.
Lips: Combine the Haute Street Rouge Unlimited Supreme Shine in the shades Highway Pink and Avenue Sunset for a beautiful peachy-orange colour on the lips.
