Fashion month has come to an end and has given us plenty of outfit inspo, but now the hard part starts – how do you take your new favourite, lust-have trend from the runway to real life? Enter, Melbourne Central. We took a trip to the Styling & Personal Shopping Service and visited retailers from their expansive line up, guided by one of the talented styling team, Elaine Marshall, and guess what? We found that it’s not that hard to rip the look from the catwalk and put it into your wardrobe.
ON THE RUNWAY
This season, we saw denim go from strictly off-duty to on-trend and on the runway. The durable, versatile fabrication was spotted at Gucci, Prada, and most recently, at Aje’s MBFWA presentation, and has filtered through to the high street. Add in the fact that stylish celebs like Rihanna and Beyoncé are on board with the double denim styling, and it’s a look that’s got staying power.
REAL LIFE
Where else to go to grab on-trend denim than General Pants Co.? With the help of Elaine, part of the Melbourne Central’s team of stylists, we started with a classic chambray shirt and mid rise jean, then updated the look with an oversize denim jacket with a shearling inlay. To complete the RiRi-eque look, add in some white sneakers, like these from Reebok and the streetwise look is ready for you to make the streets your catwalk.
If you’re needing a little double denim that’s more Jourdan in Burberry than Britney and Justin, head to General Pants Co. on ground level at Melbourne Central, or, if you need a full wardrobe overhaul, keep an eye out in the next few weeks for a very stylish save the date – the Melbourne Central One Day Shopping Festival is back again! With special deals, events, and gotta-have-it sales, the 12 hour festival is one of the Melbourne fashion fiend’s most anticipated days of the year.
