BACKSTAGE BEAUTY: MBFWA 15 DAY 2 WRAP UP – PART 2

What a day of Beauty. Mercedes Benz Fashion Week really kicked things off today with a bevy of beautiful designers and fashions on the runway. Backstage was as busy as it always is and we were lucky enough to head backstage to catch the action and talk with all hair and makeup directors about key looks and products.

TOME

Makeup by M.A.C. Cosmetics

Claire Thompson for M.A.C created a bit of a 50s look to follow with the 50s feel of the TOME collection whilst giving is a bit of a modern twist. Every girl had a slightly different look. Skin was prepped using M.A.C Prep + Moisture Infusion Serum and used M.A.C Face & Body Studio Finish foundation as a base. M.A.C Translucent Powder Pressed and M.A.C Prep + Prime BB Compact finished off the base look.

The look created for the eyes recreated the look of when you “take off a heavy eye but you have just the residue around the eye” but also given a sheen to the look using M.A.C Cream Colour Base in Luna. Lips were given a pop of colour – some that went against the palette of the collection including M.A.C. lipstick in Lady Danger.

Hair by Redken

Jon Pulitano from Redken created a tough and modern version of the 50s hair style. A square, very wet looking front. Jon used Redken Rootful on dry hair, created a very low side part and then sprayed that in. Redken 23 Hairspray was then layered on and diffused in so that that the hair dried very firm. Redken Argan 6 was brushed through at the back to give it a natural texture.

FABY Nail Lacquer

Karon McKendrick-Taylor created a relaxed look for FABY Nail Lacquer. A nude polish in the Everything You Touch nude polish was applied with a Matte Top Coat so that they look like they’ve not had any polish applied. On the toes, a bright red polish was applied to give a bit of bling!

BEC & BRIDGE

Makeup by M.A.C

Nicole Thompson from M.A.C. created a simple look that didn’t detract from the tan given the focus on the swim component of the collection. .  “It’s not about the makeup today” so the look was kept subtle, not too glitzy or glam, a really balmy skin. Skin was prepped with M.A.C Fix Plus, M.A.C Careblend Oils, M.A.C Studio Face & Body in C5 with M.A.C Studio Finish Concealer where needed and M.A.C Cream Colour Base in Mid-tone Sepia and Hush as a base. The skin was finished with M.A.C Prep + Prime Transulent Powder Loose and M.A.C Mixing Medium in Shine to give sheen to the look.

Eyes were subtle with M.A.C Mineralized Skin Finish Natural in Medium Deep and M.A.C NC15 Chromographic Pencil with M.A.C Mixing Medium in Shine give the eyelid a bit of shine. On the lips, M.A.C Subculture Lipliner was used to add slight colour.

Hair KMS California

Alan White from KMS California was inspired by the “Downtown It Girl”, creating a look that looked finished but at the same time slightly undone. Silk Sheen was used for the silky smooth finish and a polished wave was created. Hair was healthy and beautiful, looking sexy as if nothing was done to it.

Tan by St. Tropez

Michael Brown from St Tropez said the look created was about  enhancing the model’s natural glow and not about changing the skin colour. He used St Tropez Instant Tan in Deep, for a deeper tan and used  St Tropez Skin Illuminator to highlight the collarbone and places the light would naturally hit to make it fresher and healthier, instead of just one block colour.

Skin by Skinstitut

Skinstitut used its Hydrating Mist to prepare the skin and make it fresh. Skinstitut Eye Believe was used to address any issues with puffiness, which was also spread across the face to tighten pores. Different moisturisers were used for each girl depending on their skin type.

WATSON X WATSON

Makeup by The Curtis Collection

This look was all about the glow. A luminous, radiant shine was created across the skin “A sheer mineral tint was used as a base with a strong brow created to frame the face. Using Radiant Glow Illuminator down and across the cheek bone, and using concealer under the eye to lift the look and add glow.  The Illuminating Bronzer was used to contour creating a radiant illuminating glow giving a beautiful and fresh feel to the skin.” says Victoria Curtis from the Curtis Collection.

Hair by Redken

Philip Barwick from Redken created a billowy look where hair was healthy, effortless and luxe.  “The movement starts from the cheekbones and then billows through”. Pillow proof Primer was used as a heat protectant and helped to speed up drying. The roots and hair were then lifted with Redken’s Rootful 06 and Guts 10 and divided up into three sections – side, back and top.. . “We then divide it into three at the side, back and the top. The bit at the nape of the neck is wound clockwise, the next section is wound anti-clockwise and then the top is wound clockwise off the face. We then finished with our Windblown 05 to give that elemental feel to it.”

Makeup by Curtis Collection

Victoria Curtis for Curtis Collection created a clean base but used products that provided glow on the base to increase radiance. Using the Curtis Collection CC Cream Naked glow, the cream helped to correct the skin tone as well as capturing the light from the runway. Using the Curtis Collection Matte Bronzer in Bronzed Goddess, Victoria added warmth to the face. Strong brows were created using Curtis Collection Brow Definer and a winged liner added using Curtis Collection Luxe Liner in Jet Black. Lips were nude using the Curtis Collection Lipliner and Go Nude lipstick.
