Target held one of the most entertaining and enjoyable shows during VAMFF. The show which was a real celebration of fashion and what the brand stood for. Models of all ages took to the runway to showcase the different categories the retailer had to offer. Everyone from children to teens and adults were catered for. Rather than the usually unsmiling looks seen on the runway, the models looked like they were having a great time on the catwalk and their energy was infections.

The show opened with the dynamic Jess Mauboy making her runway debut. She would later return to close the show with a high energy performance of her hits Can I Get A Moment and Pop A Bottle which brought the normally conservative fashion crowd to their feet. Showing off her flawless vocals, Mauboy was the perfect ambassador to showcase Target’s latest collection.

Australian icon Dannii Minogue revealed her latest Petites Collection which was full of great inspiration for the upcoming colder weather. “Drop 6 and 7 is going into a lot of cozy comforts for winter. It’s all about texture. I’ve got boots and little short booties coming in that people who aren’t petite can buy into but we do go down to a size 5 which is amazing because Target didn’t use to. So we are including the little peoples’ feet like mine! We have handbags coming in and we and I have a tonne of stuff I’m working on for Petities which will expand outside the clothing line I’ve done. I’ve been working so hard!”

Mingoue was excited that she was able to use petite models to showcase the clothes including the winner of her #Petiteposse social media competition Alana Quartly. “We’ve got all truly petite models. We finished our casting through our Instagram competition callout. But obviously because Petite models still don’t really exist, they are still so inexperienced. They did amazing in the rehearsal today but it’s very different when the lights are on and the music an the audience are there. I’m literally crossing my fingers for them. If they do what they did in rehearsal it will be incredible.” Minogue didn’t have to worry with the crowd loving the collection and the models. “It all comes from inner confidence”, she said of the secret to walking the runway. “That’s what we were saying at the auditions. It’s all about being confident and comfortable in your skin and that’s what you have to bring to the runway. It’s a very hard thing to ask people because they might be really confident but when they start walking it’s different.”

Olympian Giaan Rooney launched her new active wear collaboration with Spalding. The range was a real passion project for Rooney and she indicated she was heavily involved in the design process. As a professional athlete herself, Rooney was able to use her experience in the industry to create a range which not only looked fantastic, but was also high performing.

In a week filled with fashion, Target certainly staked their claim on the consumer market with a standout show that really showed that you don’t need to spend a lot to look good and have fun with fashion.
