Couturing headed backstage to report on the beauty beauty bits straight from day two of Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival’s Premium Runway 3 presented by ELLE.

Complexions were fresh and dewy during the ELLE show on Tuesday evening with world-renowned makeup director Rae Morris leading a team of professionals backstage on day two at VAMFF. Supported by Rimmel at Priceline Pharmacy, Morris opted for a hint of 40s glam with a modern twist. Prepping the skin with moisturizer and primer will ensure smoother skin and less bumps along the way for base application. To even out the skin tone, Morris applied a light coverage of Rimmel Match Perfection Foundation and Luma by Jess Hart Illuminating Highlighter on the upper cheekbones.
“The skin needs to glow, but we’ve kept the red lip very matte, and added strong bold brows, defined cheeks, and a hint of top mascara to life the eyes,” said Morris.
Defining the brows using Rimmel Professional Eyebrow Pencil anchored the barely-there eye look, creating runway-ready arches.
For the eyes, Rimmel Soft Kohl Kajal Eye Liner Pencil in Pure White was added to the lower waterline and a hint of Rimmel Kate Idol Eyes Mascara was brushed on the top lashes for extra definition. As for the red-haute lip, Rimmel Apocalips Matte in Burning Lava descended down the runway, leaving heads turning for all the right reasons.

Under the direction of VAMFF’s Hair Director Kenneth Stoddart, the backstage team elevated the tresses of Melbourne’s top models for ELLE’s runway debut. The ELLE girl is young, she’s fresh, confident and most importantly, effortless. This transpired directly to the hair with a seamless low ponytail wrapped and left to hang in the middle on its own. We caught up with Kenneth backstage to find out the inspiration behind the look.
“The look we did for ELLE is a simple but chic alternative to a ponytail. I love the way it allows the hair to float out as the models come down the runway,” said Stoddard.
“We’ve kept the hair really close to the head with a low side part and that is what gives it its strength on the runway,
“The femininity and confidence comes out when you fling your hair to one side so carelessly and it still looks brilliant,” he continued.

Step 1 – Apply OSIS Hairbody Volume Spray from the roots to mid lengths before separating the hair into a deep low side part
Step 2 – Next, comb hair behind the ears and apply Silhouette Mousse Flexible Hold to the top of hair and dry down while brushing
Step 3 – Taking a few large sections, tong through mid-lengths of the hair with a 1.5-inch tong to put in a lazy texture
Step 4 – Section about a one-inch section all around the hairline from top of ears to centre nap and secure the bulk of hair with elastic in a low ponytail
Step 5 – Pull through tail ¾ of the way to form a loop.
Step 6 – Re-heat sections around the ears and pin down flat with a padded clip whilst still warm.
Step 7 – Finish with Silhouette Flexible Hold Hairspray just behind the ears to hold hair in place.
