Tucked away off the main road in Petitenget, Seminyak, Villa Portsea is a little oasis in the heart of Bali. Designed and built by Australian Scott Holmes and his partner, Villa Portsea has quickly become the go-to accommodation for those looking for a luxury destination without the hustle and bustle of hotel living.
Speaking about the inspiration behind the Villa, Holmes said “We had been to Bali over 15 times and knew that we would like to retire in Bali in the future. Our family loves coming to Bali so we decided to purchase a block of land build our own villa.” Bali doesn’t have public transport so when deciding the location of your accommodation is important. “We looked at over 20 blocks before selecting this block, It was 5 minutes away from eat street Seminyak, but we loved the area, said Holmes of the Villa’s location. “We looked at Sanua and other areas, but Seminyak is so refined with quality restaurants and clothing shops.”
Holmes put his travel experience to good use when designing the Villa taking note of all the negative things he didn’t like from his past experiences and addressing them in the design. Little touches like the outdoor bath, the depth of the pool, state of the art appliances and sounds system, the open plan layout of the kitchen which leads onto the pool, are all things which makes Portsea Villas stand out from similar accommodation on the market.
Speaking about some of the key features, Holmes said “The bedrooms are large, walk through robes where you can store all of your suit cases out of the way. Most villas in this price bracket don’t have a TV room which makes it great for those wanting to zone out and relax. The pool is in the sun for most of the day so the water is always warm, whereas some villas can have cold pools. The location is in a quiet lane, but has 5 of the best restaurants in Seminyak just 5 minutes away.”
While most people have only considered traditional hotel accommodation when travelling, staying in a villa offers a lot of advantages. “One big reason is privacy”, says Holmes. “Whether with your family or just the two of you, the privacy of your own pool and own Villa is what makes people come back. About 40% of Villa Portsea guests are return guests. This grows every year with most of the booking coming from word of mouth.” It also makes it a cost effective option for those travelling in a group, particularly if you still want luxury accommodation.
As a Bali regular, Holmes has a few tips for those looking to plan their stay, “Book a few nice restaurants for dinner, Sarong, Metis, Sardine. The massages are fantastic, we love Jari Menari, not the cheapest, but by far the best. The Bali zoo is a great day out for everyone.”
The Villa comes with night security and is cleaned daily. There is also an assistant on hand to assist you with any inquiries you have e.g. restaurant bookings, activity suggestions, etc. They can also assist you with organizing for masseuses and beauty therapists to come straight to the Villa so you don’t even need to leave the comfort of your accommodation to get pampered. The staff will organise transport to and from the airport for up to 4 people and the Villa also offers free wi-fi broadband and fresh drinking water for the duration of your stay. It’s this extra attention to detail which makes Villa Portsea the perfect place to enjoy your Bali experience.
