Le Specs takes to time travel for its latest collection, stepping back through decades past to bring its retro inspiration into the modern world for the new season.
True to the brand’s cheeky sense of humour, Time Traveller pays homage to the conspiracy theory of Modern Man – an alleged time traveller photographed in 1941 wearing modern day sunglasses.
Not afraid to take risks, designer Hamish Tame reworks classic silhouettes making them sharper, thicker, bolder. A demure, pastel colour palette is contrasted with holographic-effect mirror lenses taking the aesthetic back to the future.
Traditional wayfarers are given a masculine update with wider frames in a series of rubber and matte finishes. Oversized round styles offer vintage glamour in neutral tones of coal tortoiseshell and brushed gold while graphic cats eye and aviator shapes are emboldened with fresh highlights of aqua, ultraviolet and icy blue lenses.
Teaming up with the brand for its most irreverent campaign yet, is leading Australian contemporary artist Anthony Lister. In a twist of fate Lister took to the Le Specs head office as the canvas for a recent street art ambush and a partnership between the two iconoclastic spirits was born.
The campaign sees Lister transform the collection into wearable art, pushing the concept of eyewear to radical limits with 10 bespoke frames.
Says Tame, “The emphasis this season was on classic shapes reworked with a fresh irreverence. We were after a campaign that pushed the concept of attitude, and the stars aligned after Lister tagged our office wall one weekend.”
Says Lister, “Making these frames was the closest I could get to sticking a chameleon to my face. Holographic lenses are what I am about. Show me the frames and I will bring you the future.”
Le Specs continues to build on its global success, now stocked in over 30 countries worldwide. The iconic Australian sunglass brand has an international cult following, adored by influencers including Rihanna, Kate Moss, Beyoncé, Solange and Lady Gaga.
Time Traveller will be available from leading department stores, fashion retailers and boutiques from 2nd February 2015.
