It was all about the nails on the runway at New York Fashion Week. Couturing has rounded up the coolest nail art we can’t stop obsessing over! Read on as we follow the trends to nailing fashion week every time.
REBECCA MINKOFF
Kicking off the season with the coolest nail art we’ve seen, Rebecca Minkoff’s SS15 inspired us with this dip-dyed nail effect. Incorporating the colours of the season – pastel blue, green and red – this nail look complimented the designer’s unique 3D prints and colour scheme.
To get the look, begin by applying one coat of essie in Blanc to prepare the nails and then apply essie Bikini So Teeny at the nail bed. Next up, apply one coat of essie in Turquoise & Caicos to the remaining half of the nail with a slight overlap of the two colours in the middle. Now apply a thin free-hand line of essie in Lollipop across the middle using a striping brush. Begin the watercolour effect by swiping Lollipop upwards to the tip of the nail and finish with a topcoat.
Tip: make sure to start watercolour effect directly after applying Lollipop to the nail by working on one nail at a time. Keep the coats thin, making it easier to work with blending.
WES GORDON
essie’s lead manicurist Rita Remark created this stunning linen nail art for Wes Gordon’s SS15 show. The art was inspired by the designers’ muted color palette complementing the pattern of many pieces walking down the runway. This elegant and effortlessly chic look is easy to recreate by following these simple steps.
Begin by applying one coat of essie in Cocktails & Coconuts followed by one coat of essie in Imported Bubbly. Next, take a striping brush and dip into essie in Blanc and create the linen patterns by adding vertical stripes down the length of the nail and repeat this horizontally. Finish by adding a thin coat of essie in Allure to settle the intensity of the white lines and add essie in Good to Go topcoat.
HOUGHTON
We loved Houghton’s nail art designed led by manicurist Miss Pop for OPI. This stunning look was simple and sparkly – with added Swarovski crystals! Each model wore a unique blend of one, two or three crystals to their middle finger and toes to sparkle down the runway. Complementing the show’s bold accessories and feminine prints, Miss Pop began by applying OPI Base Coat and then two coats of OPI in Samoan Sand. This sheer nude colour kept the nails looking clean and sheen. Adorned with Swarovski crytals on the middle fingers, each crystal was stacked vertically starting from the bottom of the nail. Sealing the nails with OPI in Matte Top Coat.
REEM ACRA
Staying pretty in pink, OPI worked with the designer to complement the show’s romantic, feminine fashions. OPI in Bubble Bath is a soft, milky pink, which served as the only colour for the show. Dubbed as one of OPI’s most popular colours, two coats of Bubble Bath was applied and sealed with OPI in Top Coat. The classic hue was carried onto toes to complete the romantic pale pink look.
