My average Wednesday night does not usually consist of rubbing shoulders with the likes of international model and Melbourne Spring Fashion week ambassador Ashley Hart, or being front and centre to observe the newest spring collections of some of the most successful Australian designers. However, this Wednesday night was unlike most. I was front and centre at MSFW Designer Runway 2 to witness some of our most iconic and talented designers showcase some of their best pieces ever.
Carly Hunter
Carly Hunter’s new collection kicked off the show with crisp whites paired with contrasting blacks and an eye catching cobalt blue as her signature shade this spring. There was a perfect balance between structured fabrics, soft lines and matte textures. It’s fair to say that Oyster Magazine was correct when they described Carly Hunter’s designs as hybrid luxe loungewear at its innovative finest.
YB J’AIME
YB J’AIME came next. With its geometric and innovative prints and 1940s inspired necklines with modern twists, there was plenty of bright whites and blooming reds in contemporary feminine pieces that encouraged images of Spring to come to mind instantaneously.
Alice McCALL
Alice McCALL did not disappoint. Her collection sported some stunning soft pastels ,baby blues and pale yellows as the colour palette for this season, and with scalloped edges paired with sheer and silk fabrics, this collection was one to be envied. Alice McCALLs newest collection depicts the perfect spring range and with some stand out conservative yet stunning prints.
LIFEwithBIRD
LIFEwithBIRD displayed beautiful imagery with their models gracing the runway with flowing pieces and high waisted shorts as a standout for this coming spring. There were structured tops with clean lines and a contemporary spring/summer colour palette consisting of pinks, grey, sheer white and charcoals coupled with striking modern floral prints. LIFEwithBIRD captured the essence of Spring and showed a sensational collection – my favourite for the night.
Neo Dia
Neo Dia was one of my own personal favorites with striking pinks paired with contrasting sharp whites. This collection had an eye catching juxtaposition between classic feminine pieces and bold monochromatic structured statement pieces, with an array of fabrics and textures seamlessly paraded down the runway.
Kahlo
Kahlo hit the runway with everything and more that was expected of the Frida Kahlo-inspired label. Although the designers admit their design aesthetics are not similar in any way to the artist, their collection represented creativity and strength with bold metallic and black conservative yet edgy ensembles storming down the runway.
Manning Cartell
Manning Cartell entered the runway with daring oranges and bold structured pieces paired with soft feminine shapes to take you into spring this season. Staying true to their brand, Manning Cartell showed a true collection with synergy and stand out designs for this spring.
Lui Hon
Hon’s models hit the floor with a classic black and white colour palette and plunging necklines, structured styles, and stunning strong shapes the only way to describe this collection with an imposing modern twist on black lace, this collection was both beautiful and fierce.
Willow
Much like the label suggests, these beautiful pieces hovered above the runway with grace and had the audience delighted with the femininity of this season’s collection. There were pale oranges bright reds, floral prints and distinctive flowing fabrics, a must have for this season.
